registering a JDM ITR... possible?
think again, depending on what state you reside in..many of people have gotten this to work.

No, it is absolutely impossible to register a JDM ITR 100% legally and ethically in America without providing one for crash testing.

Edit: Oh yeah, it's covered under the (Kit-car) claus, and in some states you are limited on mileage on kit cars.

You need to go to http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov it will help you. Go to your local DMV and get your state laws on importing a non-usdm or gray market car. I hope you have a fat wallet. Good luck and please let me know how it goes i want to import a eg6 or ek9.
I second Brian (B18C1_powered_si). I have a friend that has a right hand drive itr in sacramento cali. It is legal. Only thing he had to do was get the headlights DOT retrofitted and get it to pass smog. After that it was all good. With enough money, anything is possible.
I talked to a two guys from SF and LA who both got their 96 and 98 ITR legal for the streets. They both said they had to do over a year of paper work and red tape to get it done as with over 3 dozen trips to the dmv, etc...
They said they had to register it as a LS integra with a LS engine, exhaust, US front, etc... to make it work easier. After all the paper work was done, they swapped all the type R items back into it and its fully legal.
One other guy I know of actually brought the a JDM R into the US in many pieces and burried it under parts in a crate he brought over. Once he got it to the wearhouse he put the car together and some how made it legal by using a salvageed title from a local wreaked ITR and putting all the salvaged VIN's, etc... on the car.
The top two people did it really legal and the last guy I mentioned kinda bent the rules and made it legal.

That's awesome.... The salvaged vin sounds pretty easy, but will probably cause major headaches if you try to sell the car. I wonder what you'd do about the VIN on the Firewall...
You know, that may work here in vegas as long as you buy a salvaged car that has actually been registered here before, no VIN inspection... but if it's salvaged title you'll still have to get an inspection... maybe a non salvaged total poo ride 94 ls?

An illegal/legal way is the salvage yard method. Just buy a junked Integra, send that vin into the DMV...and so on.
The problem is not so much that you're driving a different car than what the title says, but instead, if something happens to it.....you won't get nearly as much cash from insurance.

that guy brandon from inlinefour drives a registered 96 jdm itr. when i asked him how he registered it, he said it was a pain in the *** and would never do it again.
in your sentence..you even say that there is way to ...so how is it exactly impossible?? I have seen many do it.

This is what I have heard too, but if I can get one over and have it registered I will be able to pass on my knowledge to the many others who have dreamt of having a genuine JDM ITR in the states.

OK, say I go w/ the swap of vin numbers and everything turns out alright, what would happen if I got pulled over for some reason? Could I just say that I did a right hand drive conversion?
