Tranny/Clutch noise--Honda/Acura techs Please help??
Background:
I noticed that everytime I stepped on the clutch pedal it would make some weird sound.(almost sounds like two metal plates rubbing). It happens only when the clutch pedal is pressed (halfway and all the way down, basically anytime pressure is put onto the Pressure Plate). No noise at all if I let it idle in neutral.
Since its a hydraulic system, I figured it must be a bad release/throwout bearing as that is the only thing that makes contact. Than the day finally came when I couldnt move the shift lever into gear or out of gear with the pedal all the way down. I check the fluic level and its fine and figured the Clutch release/throwout bearing just crapped out on me.
Pull the transmission, nothing appears to be bad. Than I pull off the Pressure Plate and find that part of the disk that holds one of the springs had broken off, and apparantly may have gotten lodge-causing me to not be able to shift in and out of gears. I thought, yes problem solved. This was the source of the noise and the reason I couldnt get into gear.
Problem:
Well since that clutch disk was toast, I decided to get a brand new clutch, clutch disk, and flywheel. I also got new release/throwout bearing and pilot bearing. So everything is new, as it is very hard for me to remove and replace the tranny by myself, I decide to be as thorough as possible. I cleaned the tranny, inspected the shaft, and put new grease.
Once everything was back together, I flush the clutch fluid and start it up to see how the new clutch feels. AND the noise is still there (Sounds like two metal plates rubbing each other) everytime I step on the clutch (at the exact moment the release bearing has any pressure on the Pressure plate). I cant figure it out, I keep thinking its the release bearing, but How could that be? I have replaced it with a new one from Honda(Nachi). Please help as this is driving me crazy as I have no idea now.
By the way, I drove it about 10 miles and the clutch feels great, just the annoying sound. I also checked the pedal adjustment as per Helms and it is within spec.
