Default What are Options on a free flowing Drop in air filter for Type R

I checked the Search page first, and Archived topics are disabled apparently.
So I have this Q?
I want to start off by saying.. I am not going with an aftermarket Intake.

I simply want to put in a free flowing air filter that is affordable. I percieve the Fram/ stp/ purolator filters are paper and too restrictive! The Spoon Sports one looks nice and I am sure it works well but I have seen it advertised for ~135-145+ price range... too much money IMO for a sponge cone drop in!
I checked a few K&N web sites w/ info and could not find a part number or listing for Itr
does anyone have advice on this matter?

Go strap any ITR to a dyno and test various filters. You will find very, VERY little difference in power/torque output.

You will find a 1.5 hp avg gain with the filter and a 4-5 hp gain with an Intake.

K&N and a modified stock horn will make a drop in for $35-$40. I have K&N and Comptech. Like them both.

Thanks to everyone for their advice and help.

"R rated" ... do you happen to have any pictures or your mod to put that filter in?
Does anyone know a good low cost retailer for monster sport powerfilter?

There's no mod to it.

I have the E-2427 also. It fits exactly like the stock filter. I think I paid ~$75 including shipping.

If you want to save some money, you can get a generic K&N cone filter for ~$35 (forgot the PN), cut the filter element off an old OEM filter, and attatch the K&N to the OEM filter elbow.

Sorry, I don't have a digi cam. There's NO MOD needed to be done to the K&N filter.Simply drop it into intake box-DONE;plug & play.

Plus, recently I installed the Comptech icebox & kept the K&N filter, so pic wouldn't be acurrate (or what ur wanting) as this filter fits REALLY snug in Comptech's box.

Also check out Comtech's website (comptechusa.com), as they have a foam drop-in filter; I'm skeptical about this product as I've read many post from users who said it does not flow as well as paper filters & requires more frequent cleaning

BTW K&N filters are guaranteed to last 1 million miles (or KM?)

I have a stainless wiremesh "Blitz" filter on my R and it work wonderfully. I won't want to go with anything else. It's pretty much care-free filter where others have to be oiled on a regular basis.

If i do this.. I would need a filter with a 3'' diameter on the inside of the rubber to slide onto the itr's elbow... right?

I mean those Spoon Stickers that come with the filter should give you alteast 5 hp each. But seriously you can't go wrong with Spoon. It maybe expensive and it may not get you alot of Hp but is a JDM Bling and that is well worth the money.

Yes, by generic I mean it is not made for any specific application. It is just a cone filter.

I believe it is 3".

I forgot the part number, but there is one that is of the proper dimensions that is often used with a modified stock elbow.

Man I like spoon alot.. outstanding company... phenominal products. The best I.M.O
(But Toda, Mugen, are real close)
but I am on a budget and 140 dollars for a spoon drop in filter is ludicrous to me.. when a K&N would add about the same hp! and cost less than half of that figure.
But if money wasnt a problem.. Spoon everything for that matter.. but thats like a $20K + Eg hatch! I don't have the loot for total spoon. Just a shiftnob so far. that I picked up for 40. lol
