replacing CAM SEAL
anybody wanna throw some advice my way on how to replace my cam seal.....it's leaking along the bottom...not TOO bad, but i want a tight seal on the engine......any special tools/instructions/procedures to follow, or can i just yank it out and pop the new one back in??? thanks
just did it tonite.
hondabond (or gasket maker, high temp), flathead screwdriver, 10mm socket, 12 mm socket, oil, and time.
step 1: remove valve cover and spark plug wires
step 2: remove rail that covers cam caps (like 10 12mm bolts)
step 3: remove 2 10mm bolts on each side, one by the cam seal, one by the cam gear.
step 4: use flathead to lift up the cam seal cover. remove
step 5: rub fresh oil on new cam seal (golden eagle, or str) o-rings and place gasket sealer on edges of cam seal, dont contact orings.
step 6: place gasket sealer on valvecover gasket ( near points of stress like where it bolts down) dont forget the spark plug hole gaskets
step7: bolt down valvecover and plug things back up.... dont forget ground.
step 8: spray brake cleaner or carb cleaner underneath new cam seal.
few days later check cleaned area and see if oil leaks. if it does, apply a liberal amount of gasket sealer.
btw: dont over torque when tightening valvecover, u may snap the studs
