Speedometer doesn't work
Hi, I guot a speedometer question. On my 94 honda accord Ive been driving around not knowing how fast Im going for about the past year. Ive been doing good with it till johnny lawn pulled me over and gave me a ticket and wouldnt buy the fact that my spedometer didnt work. My plan is to pleed not guitly due to Mechanical Error and say it just happend that day.Anyhow I do know theres something faulty with the spedometer itself because we tested the speed sensor drirectly out of the transaxle using a snap-on diagonostic computer and that reads the speed. The speedometer just dosnt work. MY tach works fine though. along with everything else on the guage cluster , minus, the speedometer.
My speedo stays on 20 when I drive, goes back to zero when I turn the car off.
Once in a while the speedometer does work though. Id say out of every full tank of gas itll read for 30 or so miles. Some times the speedo will kinda of bounce too.
Ive checked for loose wires and any other connections and so far have found none.
I have yet to take the dash apart and look at the speedometer.
Hopefully someone can help out with some advice before I just end up going to a speedometer service place. By the way I was quoted between 100-400$ to get it fixed so Id rather not do that. I still owe bank because I broke my last tranny thinking I was cool baking the tires all the time. Im doing my best to not do dumb things anymore.
Anyhow thanks for any help.

not sure what he problem but if everything is solid up to the guage cluster then it's probably timew to break into it.
best of luck with the mechanical failure crap. you;d better be able to prove it did not work. and that you have fixed it. 9/10 they won't buy it even with that.

I had the same thing happen in my car - every now and then it would click on and start working and then drop back to 20. Mine also bounced around from 5 to 15 when I was pulling up to a stop sign.
It's time to replace your cluster. I picked up mine from a junk yard for $175. All it needed was a little cleaning. You might be able to get just the speedometer - but most likely they'll say you need the whole thing. I would also say to take out all of your bulbs and swap them in if you know they work. I had to take it out once it was installed because a few were burned out.
It's pretty easy to do it yourself. It's like 12 screws holding the dash together and 4 screws holding in the cluster. I did it in an hour, but I'm also easily distracted.
