Did a search, yielded squat. Hopefully someone can help.

My fiancee's 99 LX had the CEL come on... Honda dealer claims that the component that the code was referring to is fine.. Something to do with the pressurization of the fuel tank... So their opinion is that the ECU is messed, and they want $480 to replace it. So my question(s) are:

1) What do you think of the diagnosis? Sound fishy? Anyone with similar experience? This light has been on thru several tanks of gas, and I made sure the cap was on tight, etc...

2) If you agree with the diagnosis, would it be tricky for someone of limited repair experience to locate/replace the computer? Are they readily available at boneyards, etc on the cheap?

What code are you throwing?

500 is a joke.

I just sold my SOHC VTEC ECU for 40 dollars.

It takes about 15 minutes to change out the ECU.

 

i agree $500 is BS you can go get 1 at a junkyard for cheap, the ECM is located under the carpet on the right side of the passenger floor panel
