Default My ITR shuts off every week, Part 2

Thanks alot guys for all your feedback and input on my previous topic, but now about 2 months later my car is doing the same thing. It has been acting weird lately when I get on it by kind of bogging, but today I got it in and drove it about 30 feet and stop and then it died. When I changed the ignitor, coil, and cap before it solved the problem, but now the problem is back. Is there something on my car which could cause the ignitor to keep dying? Are my plugs bad (they are supposed to last 100K)

Please help...again

Thanks

Try changing the plugs.

Spark plugs should not be used for 100k miles.

Shake the injector wiring harness, sometimes those solders can come loose, if it bogs whilst you shake it-youuve got your problem in check

Also, make sure the connectors on the passanger side front strut tower are locked together well. Were those parts you put in Honda?

Yes, all parts were brand new honda parts. I will try shaking the wiring harness along with the passenger side wiring harness.

I just called my dealership and I am waiting a return call. I am trying to get a courtesy car because they said the only way to fix it would be to keep the car for a week or so until it does it for them.

No I don't get a CEL and that is why they can't fix it. Incomptent!

I will keep ya'll posted.

That is a good point, I just need a car to drive while they have it and they said they can't give me a car until they can reproduce the problem for themselves. Does insurance cover you on rentals if you car goes into the shop even if it wasn't in an accident?

They cant give you a car???? I think you are getting the old " up the anus" here.... I would snap... if you purchased the car from that dealer... it is there duty to provide a car for you... as long as you give them enough warning, they should provide a car until they pin-point and fix the issue.... .. I would call Honda head office and speak with a customer support rep, also, try another dealer... not all dealers are the same...

I didn't buy the car from this dealership, I bought it from Honda right across the street and we bought our S2000 from this Acura dealership. I am going to call Honda today and see what can be done. The only thing is, he said they can't give me a car until the car reproduces the problem and everytime I bring it there the car won't do it. It won't do it while at idle, you have to drive it hard, like it was built for. I am not going to drive it around under 4K rpm for the rest of my life.

Did changing the plugs help anything?

Change the fuel filter next.

if worse comes to worse ill take her off your hands

Seriously though try these

Dry Gas: Bogging stalling hard starting means either fuel or spark

Order of stuff
Fresh plugs
Dry gas in every tank for a month
Fuel filter
Plug Wires

I had a bad conection on a plug wire once in an old saab, the thing would run like a champ and then radomly only fire on one cylinder
took a while to figure out what the hell was wrong

Here is a recap of my preious two days. On Tuesday I went to my normal Acura dealership and told them they could keep the car like suggested until they find out the problem. I would rather them keep it until it's fixed because my warranty is almost up and then I will have to pay for it. Anywya, they took it and I asked for a loaner car. They have 8 in the back, 8! and they told me "we don't have one to give to you" Why? They can't identify the problem so as of now there is not problem. Once the car starts doing it for them, then they will estimate the time it will take to fix it and let me know from there, but until then I am stuck without a car. This information made my brother very upset and he kind of went off on the whole department. Well then they told him they were calling the cops on him and for me to take my car and never come back. The problem has not been fixed yet. The service guy that sits and takes your keys and stuff went and brought my car back and told me to leave as well even though I did nothing wrong.

I contacted the corporate office for Acura yesterday and told them the situation and they appologized and gave me another location to take my car. They told me they can't promise me a loaner car because each dealership is privaley owned and they all have their own rulse on loaner vehicles.

The service director, thirty minutes later after I had left the building and was on the phone getting Acura's number, comes out and tells me I couldn't have a car because I was under 25. My age wasn't know until the end of the whole situation so it can not be used against me, he was just trying to validate his reason for denying me a loaner.

Either way I still have the problem and I don't rely on Acura to fix it, because so far all of them have proved to me that if there isn't a code, there isn't a problem.

I took my plugs out yesterday and noticed that the tips were white. This means something is too hat, but what? I have new plugs, but I don't want to put them in to do the same thing these did, those plugs aren't cheap. The thing that gets me is that I thought these were supposed to last 100000 miles. Either way I believe this to be my problem. Any ideas on how to make my new plugs stay good and not turn white?

The only mods on the car are I/H/E and the timing was advance 2 degrees from factory, which I belive is 17 right now.

Thanks

Platnium plugs on a R may last until 100000 miles but you should def. change them way earlier then that.

Kev I understand your problem. I have own my own car since 26 and anytime i needed a loaner or rental I never got it because of my age. Honestly just drop your car off to somewhere like Nalley Acura and borrow Ron;s civic for time being or drive your car hard as hell and then go to Nalley in the hopes that it will do it again.

H, easier said then done. I can't drive any of Ron's cars because of his insurance and my mom only has one, and she can't drive a 5 speed. You think Nalley is good dealership? I may have to go there. I am hoping it is my plugs, butat this point it could be anything. Maybe I should sell this car too, you know how I do. But with my luck, I will go and buy a 350z or the IS300 like I wanted and it blow up or something. I don't think cars like me. Maybe I will buy a bicycle or some rollerblades. Does Noah have a Razor Scooter he wants to sell?

According to NGK's web site my plugs are fine:

"An engine's condition can be judged by the appearance of the spark plug's firing end. If the firing end of a spark plug is brown or light gray, the condition can be judged to be good and the spark plug is functioning optimally."

I don't think my plugs are light grey though, more like a white. Does white mean I am running too lean? I was on the search for a VTEC controller to put in and then get my car dyno'd and tuned, should I get the controller, new plugs and tune my car to run at the proper fuel level?

HELP!!!

Naw. He has a power wheels jeep. The brakes are okay but the 0 to 60 time of when hell freezes over is a little long.

You might like the handling.

Rob new some people that worked @ Nalley Acura but they are no longer there. You know you might want to try your distributor. I know its liek a 2-300 dollar part but Rob and I were talking about your situation adn he said that he would replace that as well before giving it over to the dealership.

Or how about explaining the problem as it relates to the distributor: Saying something to the effect of: "Well I have a problem with my distributor". A lot of times if you tell them what YOU think the problem is they will @ least start in that area. (Tell them you had everything else replaced and the distributor is the last thing to replace and since you had warranty still you wanted to bring it in)".

That should work. Might have to leave it fr @ least a day.

Its ok, I found a tricycle on eBay, it cas a lower center of gravity so Ithink I will go with that, plus I have been going to the gym so I think I am putting out about 2 horses to the wheel.

I already tried telling the dealership what I thought was wrong and they said that if they can't prove its wrong so they can't replace it until they prove it is the problem. Why would the distributor be the problem? I replaced everything in it.

Will they not at least swap the distributor with a known good one, or are they claiming since it's an intermittent problem, they don't want to try that?

Well...

I hate to suggest this, but I think it's time for drastic action. They are trying to stiff you and run out your warranty. If you don't handle this before the warranty is up you are screwed. You are getting the shaft since a) You are young, and b) your warranty is about to expire, and c) it's a sports car and (see a) so they figure you are thrashing it. Having your brother go nuts on them is not helping. I'd suggest finding a lawyer who specializes in the lemon law. Call him NOW, and make sure you get paperwork on every single trip to the dealer. In the meantime (of if you don't have dealer paperwork), go back and write a diary of every single friggin' time you've had it in, every single thing you've done or experienced. Put down the time you've spent. Make it sound very professional and educated. It will likely become a court document, and the more mature it sounds on paper, the better you will do. Write it in different pens so it doesn't look like you put it all down in one day. If you can document a pattern, you can sue them and get a new car, plus cash for all your trouble (depending on what state you live in). YOU NEED TO START THIS *NOW*.

I had the same problem on a Toyota truck. They knew they had a head gasket problem, and it failed (partially) under warranty, but they would'nt fix it, and I could not prove what was wrong. It finally died after the warranty was up, but they would'nt do jack. I threw in a new motor, then sued them. Took two years, but I finally got back a bunch of cash. ****'s. You have to stay the course. They want to make it hard on you, since most people just give up and go away. You have to document EVERYTHING and just keep at them. If you do, eventually they will give in because it is cheaper to pay you off than to fight it.

I'd also suggest getting the news media involved. Call the papers, and some of those consumer reporters. You have to make a *HUGE* stink. The only thing they fear is bad press. You have to stick it to Acura corporate, the dealers won't do jack. Whatever you do, don't get mad, just keep after them. If you get mad, they dismiss you as a kook. If you are professional, they fear you because they know if it ends up in court, they will likely lose. If you ever have to see anyone in person, wear VERY nice clothes. Speak in even, professional tones. Don't rant. Give details. Be precise, and know WTF you are talking about. This will get you a lot more. "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar".

Good luck!

So far so good. I have been running my car pretty hard now and then and no signs of failure. I am going to switch to a colder plug today just to see how it runs. However I do have another problem. Acura told me that I could not have a loaner for 1) I don't have an identifiable problem and 2) I am under 25. Well the other day a good friend of mine went in there and they gave him a loaner car for a job that only took one hour. They replaced his passenger seat. It was an Identifiable problem, but he is only 22! I am very interested in sueing Acura for discriminateion, but my friend doesn't want me to do anything because then he will never be able to get a loaner again. Needless to say he is no longer my friend and my other problem is if I do file a case I won't have his testimony or proof of loaner vehicle. My ex-friend was know to tell a tale just to make a story interestind so I don't even know if he was telling me the truth. This **** sucks.
