Tein for CRX, model differences and recommended applications?
Like the title says, I was wondering what the differences were between the SS, HA, and RA series of coilovers from Tein. From what I have seen so far the SS is the entry model type one for street and occasional racing. The HA and RA both seem to be intended for race only, although can be run on the street if you can deal with the ride. What are the actual detailed differences in the models, and what are the intended applications for each?
nah, there are a few, I think that the SS is used for more of a daily driver and yes the HA and RA are race oriented... the SS is also 500 bucks cheaper too...
HA is far from a racing shock and can't even handle more then 500lbs springs
SS I believe has replaced HA so there isn't any HA anymore I believe.
RA is a race shock with aggressive valving and its built out of aluminum so unless you want to spend a lot of cash on RA just to go to the shopping mall I'd say forget about RA but if you are hardcore about going to the track then RA is a really good shock.
So a good street shock would be the SS/HA...I have HA but I would never buy HA again as they are heavy and rust plus they aren't a better performer then a koni.
You should look at zeal as well if you want a JDM shock.

wow, so if i have koni yellows its not really worth upgrading to tein huh? Thanks for the info i think this question was asked many times already and never really answered.

I thought HA was replaced by S. Tech which was teflon coated? The HA is just not available in the US easily at least. Not the JDM style I'm looking for either, just quality parts for an old car.
I did check Zeal out also and price scared me off, little more than Tein's of the equal level but a enough of a little more to the point of being too much for me.

uhm I think "s-tech" is a just a lowering spring
I believe SS is the replacement for HA but I haven't looked at a tein catalog for a while.
Also I think ss has the teflon coating on the sleeve so it doesn't rust but they rust on the bodies too...unless they have changed they way they paint their shocks too.
how much are you getting them for?

Yah your right S. Tech was the spring, I saw something last night at like 3am saying what replaced the HA... I can't remember though. The SS was just as old as the HA though because it's early models had rusting problems. The HA was replaced and the SS was redesigned. I'm still wondering about the HA though, it seemed pretty popular and a little more race oriented than the SS. Anyone have numbers for rates etc on all 3?
The ONLY thing I like about teins is they come with some really short bodies so that is nice.
When you buy HA you could pick different spring rates but the valving stays the same...so they basically throw on what ever springs you want on a shocks that are valved for 8kg/mm and 6kg/mm. Those rates can be handled by an AGX or illumina.
SS has to be the same as there is no point valving it for lower then that.

The SS is new and replaced the HA. the HA is no longer produced so to find them is pretty rare. The SS's do have the new caoting for rust protection unlike the oldskool HA's that tend to rust if not taken care of. You can check out all the sping rates at http://www.tein.com They have all/most of the info you would ever want.
The HA's are totally street able, but to the average person I guess they would be considered stiff. I acually wish my spring rates where stiffer like the RA's. The RA is the highest one that they make for the crx, unless you want to transfer some parts over from and EG or something and then you can go higher as in RE's and N1's. Its to bad Tein never made RE's for the crx.

I'm sure you use the N1's's for a crx
If the shock fits on a eg then you can use it on the ef they all have short bodies so all you have to do is use the appropriate forks & control arms.

i always though the HA's were streetable and designed for the track? but 89civicdx, you are saying they are street only?

It all depends on who you are and what kind of ride your looking for. HA's are totaly streetable though.

So I would say its the other way around, designed for the street and you can take it to the track.
