Default Anyone have experience with SCE copper headgaskets

I picked up a SCE copper headgasket but debating if I should use it or pick up a different head gasket.

The motor I'm building is a D16Y8 for those who are interested. My buddy built the same motor about a month ago and he used the same head gasket but it's not sealing properly. At first the head gasket was leaking becasue the guy who sold him the head was a scammer and it was warpped to ****. After getting that fixed still a leaking head gasket.

From his experience I'm very hesitant on using the head gasket. What are all your opinions...?

Copper Head gaskets are for race use only, based on a tear down and rebuild after every event...

The only way I have found copper head gaskets to seal is by having an oring job done on the head or block.

That is correct, You cant just slap a copper gasket on, their is nothing to crush around the ring of the combustion chamber, thats why you need O-rings.

Contact SCE, they will tell you all about it,

I had my block o-ringed w/ use of my SCE copper gasket, (but yes I did use K&W copper spray as well) no leaks

Stick with OEM for your headgasket.

So, if you have a "Copper O-Ringed" Block (like I have from Golden Eagle), SHOULD you use a Copper Head gasket? Is it better to use a copper one than a steel one?

Because I'm having a problem with head gaskets.

GE only recommends OEM headgaskets with copper spray on their blocks. If you are having problems, that is the reason.

The rings are steel, not copper.. Should you use one? it really doesnt matter, I know guys running stock head gaskets with o-ringed blockes, some people prefer them over copper ones. But most people I know run stepped decks with stock gaskets.

I am wondering about this too cuz I'm in the midst of changing out a buddy's head gasket. Anytime he boosted (after running 12 psi on an fmu ) his coolant resevoir would get filled. Anyway, once he saw this, he quit boosting so I'm wondering what are the chances that his head is warped and that his head studs are stretched. He too bought a copper head gasket and I want to know what steps I would need to do in order to install this properly. Would the head have to be milled and would I have to take out all the valve springs, pins retainters etc, how much is it to get o-ringed, do I need new head studs and is there another way around the head gasket change like not using the copper head gasket. thanks guys
