Falken Azenis ...... anyone try it ??
lots of info here: http://www.sccaforums.com/ubb/Forum22/HTML/000074.html
I'm switching to these as soon as the local America's Tire Co is able to get ahold of a set in 215/45R16. They are also available online thru http://www.onlinetires.com or http://www.vulcantire.com
yoshi - who waits to hear back from ATC

why do we canadians always get shafted...we get them grey market and that makes them expensive....
I drove on them and compared to the 32R...the 1st thing you notice is the lack of noise...
they seem to ride softer so you might have to set your suspension up stiffer....
other impressions off the top of my bed head....hrmmm...they seem to be pretty grippy in the torrential downpour we experienced earlier last week....and uhmmmmm......
they actually come in a 195/55/15 size....but not sure if they will when they reach the USDM market....
mmmmm..they have a rim guard.... no treadwear rating and uhmmm.... no temp rating....
not DOT approved I am assuming.... and I'll let SnyperSiR, if he is here soon enuff, make on the road report/impressions....

i just checked the wieght of the 205-50-15 and it wieghs 28lbs. OMG! thats heavy for a tire.
Comparable tires like the Kumho V700 only wiegh 22 lbs each. Thats a big difference in unsprung wieght.
Boba- who cant wait until he gets his new V700's

I'm really tempted to get the Ecsta V700 (205/45R16) over the Azenis, but the only thing swaying me towards the Falken is it's streetability. I droveto the autoX yesterday and by the time I got home, rocks on the road had taken small chunks out of my Victoracer V700s
The Azenis has a treadwear rating of 200 so it should be plenty hard enough for streets, yet soft enough for track days. It's also hard to beat the price of the Falkens.

I've run 195/55/15's for about 1 month now, and have nothing but praise for them. Compared to A032Rs, they're much quieter and friendlier to drive in the city. They don't tramline like the 32's, and IMHO, the Azenis' sidewalls are softer than the 32's. Rim guard is nice, and it even works on a 15x7" rim.
Wet traction is very good, better than any street tire I've tried, and on par, if not better, than 32's at 80% tread depth. I've found that this tire will skip with power applied in the wet, as opposed to just slipping.
I got my set from Japan, so there's no treadwear, temperature or even PSI ratings. Currently they're set at 35/33 F/R, but I'll push them up to 38/35 later today for some more testing.
Under hard cornering, the Azenis stick just as well as 32s, and have not yet gotten the car to break loose in a turn. Grip is excellent!
It's kind of strange that the US market gets Azenis' cheaper than Japan. This is comparing prices with those listed in an Option magazine...
The only thing I've felt is that under braking, the Azenis isn't as strong as a 32. Perhaps it's my own driver error or poor technique, but I haven't had 32's skid a little under extreme braking. Hrm...

I believe the Azenis is DOT street tire and not a R compound tire like A032R, V700 or Toyo RA-1.
Am I right on that ??
Anyway, which tire you guys will use on the following list: Azenis, RE-010, RE-730, Proxes T1-S or Ecsta 712 ??
Thanks again for all the input

RE-010: Great tires...too expensive...to skinny
RE-730: After a LONG break in period, they rock! Good price
Toyo T1-S: These tires are good, but DEFINITELY NOT GREAT (I won't buy them again).
Kumho 712: Best bang for the buck, but if you press anyone that owns them, they'll admit that the traction isn't the best. But they will ALWAYS be quick to remind you "You know how CHEAP they are!?!?!??!"
actually......i'm currently living in Vancouver rite now.....i picked it up at a place called NV Plus..............is a new car modification shop
The ones from Japan are obviously not DOT approved, just like the Advan A032, A038, A048, etc... Locally I think Worksport used to bring them in, but wanted big bucks for a set.
What size are you running, and how much did you pay for them?

best bang for the buck is defintely RE-730's.
Boba- who wants to try out the new S03, but the RE-730's still have LOTSof tread left on them.

I've had 205/50-15 Azenis on the stock ITR wheels for 16,000kms now.
In terms of outright laptime, they are about the same as the RE010s, and certainly about 0.5s a lap slower than the A032s. In terms of feel, they are very light feeling around the centre, and they do seem to turn in quite slowly, although I think that might be because it's too big for the wheel (the 205 is actually 219mm across the tread, which might be a bit too wide for the 15 x 6 inch wheel...).
So corner entry is worse, and there's more push before the apex. Midcorner, things are better, and general breakaway is very progressive, you can drive it on the throttle with huge slip angles and still hold your line, but they don't feel as sticky as the RE010s.
But the great thing is that they LAST
A hard session at the track hardly seems to make a dent in them, and I'll prolly get 18,000kms out of mine, with a lot of hard driving and a few track days. And unlike the RE010s, the performance didn't fall off until the 10,000kms mark. I guess it's because the compound is hard in the first place.
It's not an R tyre, just a street tire with an R design, so it's very durable for hard driving, but it's not a super sticky thing IMHO...
When mine wear out, I'll prolly fit 195/55-15s (which are 201mm across the tread), hopefully the turn in feel will be restored.

Very interesting and detail review
I just have the same Falken put on my car last week.......went to local AutoX last weekend and all I can say is I love these tyres!!
I think the Azenis has more grip than the RE-010 and better steering response...
I agree they are not R compound tyres but it is one of the best tryes I had ever tried.

I'm thinking about trying them as well...I just recently got my spoon 16" wheels and I got them w/ Paradas (only thing they had and I wanted my damn wheels) you guys think that I should get 215 45 16's or 205 45 16's? they shouldn't rub, I have already chopped a little metal off of the inside of my wheel wells...
any recommendations? thanks
falken's dealer locator didn't work on the site...anyone know of a major tire chain that would be in S FL that would have them? Tire Kingdom, etc...

actually, I think you're right...but in general, which size would be best overall performance...I really don't want to deal w/ the tire rub, but I have heard good things about these tires, so that's the only reason I'm considering the 215's (for the falken's)
