How do you tell what head you have?

I just bought an 89 D16A6 (Pm6), While dismantling it to clean the block up and such, I noticed the cam gear was a Pm3 (D15b7?). Now I'm pissed and afraid that the whole head may well be Pm3. So I was wondering how I could tell? Is there a stamp some where? It's always something! Thanks in advance...

The head its self is from what I have read, But damn it I bought an si engine to have an si engine, Not a si block with 92-95 cx Head guts... Is there a stamp on the cam? That and springs is what I'm worried about. I mean, Who would put a Pm3 cam gear on a si? I think I'm going to have to kill someone, I don't have money for this ****...
if its a Si head..
look iun the front of the head... close to the exhaust ports. there shgould be a circle with PM6 on it, and other numbers....
basically all engine main parts have their ecu stamped somewhere... for ex., my head and block have the P28 stamped around.... my old STD ha sPM9 in the head.. just go and look at it

lol, I know that NoTec... I'm not new to the engine codes. I just don't know how to tell what cam I have. I drove 455 miles round trip to pick up this engine, If I find out it has a cx cam in it, You best believe the guy is going to hear from me. I mean for what I paid, I didn't get ripped off (unless he lied about the condition of the block too), It would have been nice of him to say it was a si block with a cx head. It would have saved us both a lot of time and stress...

Well, I just looked and the head is pm3... If it looks like ****, Smells like ****, And tastes like ****, It's ****. I'll just assume it has the cx cam and valves also. Thanks for the replys. I'll keep you posted on what the guy says and does to fix the problem.

You sure the 92-95 Civic cx (d15b7) has 8 valves... The guy was real nice about it, He said the engine was pulled unaltered from his fathers 1989 crx si, And that he wasn't out to rip anyone off. So I guess it must be an si head. It says Pm3b on the cam gear, Not just Pm3 If that makes any difference. I guess it's stress, I have one car, It blew up. After buying the engine I have $111.00 to get it in and running, And I still need a si wiring harness (~$100), Si distributor ($195 new on ebay), An si ecu ($60-80), And a injector resistor box ($30-50). Maybe even new injectors... The intake valves have surface rust on them, Can I just clean that up or should I get new valves all the way around? Damn money is so evil.
i can kinda help you out with some parts...i have a pm6 ecu, and a si dist, that needs a new ignitor which you can use from your dx dist (broke one of the 4 clips off of it by mistake)- dist. $25 shipped, ecu $40 shipped...

as far as i know the d16a6 head is a pm3. my stock cam gear says pm3b on it too. both a6 heads that i have say pm3 on them. one is a pm3-8 and one is a pm3-9.
pm6 is the ecu code...not the head code!
look at the circle between 3-4 exhaust ports...pm3-? = d16a6 head.
i like it better when search works.

pm6 is like a parts code...if you buy any parts from honda, they all have pm6 in the part number. why...i dont know.
my intake manifold says
pm-6
hf-3
on the back....but its definately not from an hf...nor a dx.
just look at the head...does it say pm3 on the head itself??? F*&k the camgear...thats just a part number...if you want to know the head code look at the head. not the camgear, intake manifold, and TB. if it says pm3-_ you have a d16a6 head. the year is in the circle after that. hope that clears things up.
