93 Prelude timing belt breaks while driving.
Hey you expert tech out there!!! I may have break my timing belt while driving today. The car is now dead. Will this screwed up all the rods/valvs. Is this an expensive repair or not. Is it cheaper to get a used engine or rebuilt. Please let me know. Thanks.
single or duel cam? im not sure if its an interfirence motor or not.... if it is... then its going to cost you. i snapped my timing belt on my ls/vetc and it didnt damage anything. it all depends. you can usually buy a long block single cam for about $500.... i couldnt give you an estimate for a DOHC though.
I know that mine is NOT a VTEC. Can I buy an H22A (s) and easily swap it in? Does it require a lot of modification to fit thei Vtec H22A type s into my car? What are my options and where is the best place to read about this type of swap and how hard. Thanks.
mine snapped at 53k and what a PITA, it snapped when i was coming to a stop, bent all the valves in the 2, 3, and 4 cylinders, its expensive, but i had an extended warranty so i was lucky, parts and labor from the shop totalled roughly 1500, but thats including replacing the water pump, tensior, both belts, valves, and valve job
it all depends, yes you will more than likely have valve damage...also there is no reason to look for a Type S unless you have money to waste..one more thing..in your Sig eldin..why do u list your as a Prelude Type S?? Its an S model...very different frmo the Type S..just a pet peave..later

if you turned the car off quick enuf while the timing belt broke then it should be okay. not saying that its 100% okay, but should be. that happened to my bros lude once too and he quickly turned it off and we towed it. nothing bad came by..
but anywase, i have a brand new OEM honda timing belt for h23 if you want it.. hit me up

How hard it is if I were to just buy a complete VTEC (U.S. Model) with ECU and drop it in. Will it work with minimal modification. If it will cost that much to rebuild, I figure lets put in a vtec and get afew pony for roughly the same cost.
Oh... when I say Plude Type S, I'm talk about JDM where I saw on the web. It indicated that those engine will produce 220HP. Is that true. A little pricey though.
Thanks for all your input.

Thank you all for all the Excellent Info. You got me going here. I probably will go the route of a VTEC. I have access to buying salvage car all over the country; therefore, can I buy any VTEC from 92 - 2001 and it will drop right in with just mods to the Axle? If I were to get the same Axle from the donor car, I should be able to use that Righe??? Also are all the manual Trans mission the same for all Prelude regardless of VTEC or the base engine. I need to know if I should also be looking for a stronger or better mtx to replace due to it now being a VTEC vs. regular. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

you have to quickly get it to neutral. The "slugs" are still going to move with it in gear. Turning it off isn't going to do anything
You could just get a used h23 head and swap it out. I just did a similiar thing and I picked up a used head for like $250. Then when you pull the other one you can send out to be reworked/ported and polished or you just replace the bent valves and sell it to someone else in need? I would say this alternative would be alot cheaper. Oh yeah another thing to keep in mind even if you get a vtech from a salvage yard you'll still be in need of a new timing belt/tensioner and you might as well do the water pump while your in there.
