Few questions remain on clutch install
I've been doing a ton of searching and just have a few questions remaining.
1.) According to C-speedracing.com it is a good idea to clean the flywheel, clutch, and pp surfaces to remove oil. Does this mean just excess oil or natural finger oil? What should I use to remove this oil? clean rag, rubbing alcohol??
2.) When you are about to seperate the transmission from the engine. You have the engine supported by a jack.
C-speedracing.com says "Once the jack is in place, remove the engine mount and slowly let the motor drop down by lowering the jack until the motor sits sideways in the engine bay."
I don't understand this step. Could someone please elaborate on this a little more.
Thanks for the help
Jason

I'm by no means an expert with major car work such as a clutch, but I'm in the middle of a clutch replacement right now on my `93 Accord. Not sure what you have but here's what I did with mine.
1. Used brake cleaner and paper towel to clean new pressure plate and old flywheel. The new pressure plate was packaged with machining oil still on the pressure plate, and that has to come off for the clutch to mate properly. Just clean it off as best as you can.
2. OK, my Haynes manual, while vague in spots, said to undo the rear and pass. side mounts while supporting the trans with a jack. Did this and wiggled the trans back and forth after all bolts were out. Depending on your build, you might want to lower the trans onto your stomach granted you're still supporting it. I couldn't get the trans entirely off the engine and out without doing this.
Hope this helps you a little.

a flammable brake clean works the best. it will evaporate fast. as for the time to drop the trans, if you are doin this on the ground, i didnt use a jack but you need at least one friend. unbolt everything except the top 2 bell housing bolts. have a friend spot the bottom, then take the top 2 out and lower it by the hole where the starter goes. i have a lift now and dont worry about that. days of wrenching on my back are done.
thanks guys
someone on another board told me to have let the engine/tranny down slowing with the jack. And it will tilt very slightly downward and you can easily slide off the transmission.
I will have my car supported all around on jackstands. I wish I had a car lift.
