Default How to rip out air conditioning system?

Is it a fairly straight forward removal? once its removed I will be giving away the complete system to whomever wants it for free

Well the fact that you're giving it away for free makes removal a little easier

I would also like to know how to remove the entire AC system. Can anybody give any pointers? How much does the AC weigh?

About 50lbs when everything is said and done.

Just start ripping things out. The toughest part is getting the hoses and stuff out from in front of the radiator and pulling the a/c rad. out.

Don't forget the stuff under the dash if you want a complete uninstall.

I just pulled mine out not to long ago. Pretty easy, just make sure to cover the ends of each hose so no moisture or dirt gets in there since you will be giving them or selling them to someone else.
The only thing i didnt pull was the evaporator from under the dash(or atleast i think thats what it is called). Im still trying to get rid of mine for almost free, but hell I would give it away for free to anyone that need parts or anything.
Yeah the whole set up would probably weigh about 40 lbs if not a little less i think.
the compressor it self weighs atleast 20 or 25lbs.

As Todd said, just start removing...its not that bad, esp if you dont plan on reusing it.

Spray everything down with PB Blaster before you start wrenching.

Get your helms and review removal procedure.

Take car to shop to discharge the system before you open up the lines.

Take your time, its very straightforward. I removed everything but one line and the evap under the dash yesterday on my 91 integra. Quite a bit of weight.

i live in NJ so if anyone is in my area and feels like giving me a hand its yours, my time on working on my car is limited due to major work constraints. If I do it my self I still will give it away for free, but will need to go half on shipping with whomever is receiving it

I have a copy of Acura's A/C installation instructions for a 98 Type R/RS in .PDF format....

Just reverse the instructions and it's step by step...I had it on a site but it's down now.

IM me if you want it and I'll email it to you

EDIT: I guess We-Todd-Did-Racing.com allows .PDF files so here's a link

You may want to consider keeping your AC.

If I were ever in the market for another ITR, one with a heavily built engine and no A/C would not be very attractive.

You can give it away for free...but buying a new one when you go to sell the car will be prohibitively expensive.

My A/C doesn't really work that well and I *never* use it so I'm going to be removing my A/C as well.

Sucks though because the previous owner payed $2000 for it installed! I told my friend that if he could remove my A/C system he could have it.

Does anyone know if the ITR A/C system is any better than a Civic Si?

Any performance gains from the removal of the A/C? More HP, or less wear and tear on other parts? Just curious.....

i wouldnt say it adds HP , rather it gains back some HP that A/c pulley , and weight tend to bog down ......

so yes ...gain back lost power , less wear and tear on the engine ....less weight ...(especially less weight in the frontal area)
