Default difficulty in swapping entire car harness from crx si into dx hatch?

i have an 89 crx si, and i am going to pick up a 90 dx hatch. the wiring modifications to my crx are vtec wiring for a B16 and VAFC, 91 guage cluster, alarm, and power door locks. nothing too major.

the 90 dx hatch wiring is f**ked. a local speedshop (APG performance) had it for a while, they had a b series motor in it, some guages and other garbage. they had an alarm/ keyless entry in it, ghetto *** wiring job, and some ghetto stuff happening with the ecu wiring. on a good note, it is a florida car with mint quarter panels and hardly any dents.

i am getting the hatch for pretty cheap, my plan is to swap my motor, suspension, dash, and wiring harness. the only wiring conflicts i see so far would be the climate controls, and the sunroof. being a dx, there is no sunroof, so i could just leave that part of the harness unplugged, and for the heater controls, i might just use the hatch's manual controls.

feedback welcomed. thanks.

Swapping those 2 harnesses will be a real PITA just talk to Superhatch (Jake) he has a 90 Si Hatch and I hooked him up with a 91 CRX Si harness and he ended up just getting a complete hatch harness. None of the plugs or wires lines up and to do it right you would have to redo all of the rear harness also and I dont think any of those plugs line up either? Plus the heat is different in those 2 cars the Htach is manually controlled where the CRX is electronically controlled. If I were you I would either get a harness for the Hatch or go through and fix the current harness. Otherwise make sure ytou have complete wiring diaghrams for both the CRX and the Hatch and you could go through it wire by wire...Just my opinion but.....

i would be swapping the entire harness, dash, guage cluster, everything out of the crx.

this would include swapping the motor and harness, so there will be nothing left from the original hatch harness. it seems that the same bulbs are used for all the lights, so the connectors should definitely be similar. the wiring is fairly simple in these cars, i would have no hesitation in doing any rewiring.

you will need to grab the rear wiring harness, too, i would think. it seems the crx and civic have COMPLETELY different wiring...

Just modify the current harness to work, IT IS NOT WORTH IT! I thought about it, and realized how much of a pain in the *** it is, Modifying the dx harness is not bad at all, I did mine the first time without a problem, and the vtec wires too, car hasnt hiccuped since I did it. It only takes about an hour after its out of the car.

the only way i can see repairing the ecu wiring on the dx would be to run a continuity checker and compare its harness to another dx or the si. it sounds like the guy wants to keep the car now, so i may just put the money into a pocket rocket.

did something happen to your crx? just wondering why the change. your best bet would be to get a si dash and engine harness if you want a fresh start with your wiring. eventhough they are very similar (crx and civic) there just as many differances. goodluck with whatever you decide to do.

the crx is fine, the rear lift points are rusting out and are no longer useable.

if i get the hatch, i definitely want my crx dash in there, along with the sparco and the sir cluster.

I agree, in my opinion i would not mess with it unless you have wiring diagrams for both cars and know what you are doing. Could be a real headache.

i personally have done this exact wiring swap that you are talking about i put a 91 si wiring harness into my 88 hatch. for the most part it is very easy and not very hard to fgure out. it is just a pain to take the stock wiring out because you need to pull you interior to get to the wiring. the si harness will work fine in your hatch but there will be a few things tht you dont plug in like the sunroof controlls, the clutch saftey switch, and just a few other things. the only thing that didnt work for me was the harness would not plug into my tail lights but that was pretty easy to figure out. as long as you have the whole harness you should be good
