Default CAI Design Question

An intake produces more power by drawing air from a cooler place and by allowing the air to flow w/ less restriction. The AEM CAI's for the prelude are 3" diameter piping, unless I'm wrong. Our throttle body is about 2.5". So in theory, If I were to use a CAI from, say, an accord, which has 2.5 piping, I shouldn't lose any power. It is drawing air from the same place as the lude's intake, it is not restricted by the resonator, and it is not smaller than the TB, so there's no restriction from the piping. If anything, the air should gain some velocity. So the question is an intake w/ smaller piping, as long as it's not smaller than the TB diameter, should still make power, right?

I don't know about what everyone says about cold air intakes but the guy who works on my car when I can't says never to use one. I asked him why and he said that within a day or two he would show me. He specializes in eng. mods on hondas and acuras and sure enough the next day he called me. I went down there and there was a hole in the back of the engine, he said it was from a good bit of water getting into the intake.

This is a little off topic but I thought I'd share the info. He said it doesn't happen to everyone but it happens enough that it keeps him busy at least 1 or 2 days out of the week.

Correct.

And Kasper, that's from hydrolocking; if you have a bypass valve, or you stay out of deep puddles, it's usually not a problem.

Why would there be diff. size piping between the gen's, if they have about the same motor?

If someone would actually go and measure their 4th gen's aem cai, i'd be really interested in knowing this for sure.

Back to the original question....as long as the intake piping is as big or bigger than the TB, then there's no restriction or power lost, right?

I'm just about positive my 4gen AEM is 2.75. Sure as heck isnt 3 because 3 is bigger than the TB and my AEM is just about the same size as my TB.

I thought our TB is 2.5, b/c it's almost exactly the same size as the accord intake I had on. I'll measure it when i get home.

because the piping might not fit in the car's chasis... like on the 5th gen u have to modify to fit the 3 inch
