need help ASAP. D16A6 problems
i was driving my 1991 crx tonight. Car was running good and there were no signs of any problems. i Drove it around for about an hour, stopped and got gas and continued on my way back home. All of a sudden while on the highway the engine started bogging at 55mph in 4th gear (like it was running outta gas). I down shifted and put it in 3rd. The car bogged real hard and started back firing real bad.
I pulled over, and the car stalled out automaticly. tried to start it and there was no luck there . i Popped the hood and evereything looked alright and then the bright red catylitic converter glowing under the car got my attention. I figguerd it was just clogged or something so i broke my tools out (on the side of the highway) and disconected the header from the exhaust ports and tried to crank the engine up. All i gotta say is " BIG FLAMES" shot out the exhaust ports and the motor was popping and **** as it tried to start up. I called it quits and dialed up the tow service.
So after a $170 flat bed tow, i got it back here at the house and ripped out the plugs. plugs # 1 and #3 had black tips and the other two were fine. Anyone have any clues as to what i should check tomorow morning for the cause of this problem? I was gonna try replacing the plugs with fresh ones and see what happens. Does this sound like a couple fouled plugs, or you guyz think its something more involved?
thanx for your imput and help

might want to check fuel injectors, check your coil make sure nothing is melted or anything like that, it sounds like there is a miss somewhere in the ignition system. do you have any ignition upgrades at all?
na no ignition upgrades and the car would not start at all.Just a bunch of "POP" ing out the exhaust. Also, no codes from the ecu or anything
DAMN! i wish it wasn't 3am here otherwise i'd be out looking at it now. This is gonna **** me off cuz i have a feeling there's something seriously wrong with the motor.
I dunno, this sux
thanx for the help tho

Its the distributor... your rotor is the only thing that should be messed up.
Take off the distributor cap and look at the screw that holds the rotor on the shaft. The popping noise you describe is the misfire of the out of placed rotor..
The screw most likely ripped through the plastic in the rotor.
If the coil was bad, it wouldnt fire at all. Its firing, but not in the right order because of the rotor.
.. easy fix

when i got up this morning, the first thing i did was pull off the dizzy cap. The second thing i did was catch the falling rotor as it slid off the shaft.
No sign of the screw that was holding it in there tho.
thanx for your help,
mike
