New Fuel pump for B16 swap into CRX HF? ITR Pump?
Hi,
I was told by a local speed shop that I should upgrade my fuel pump in my CRX HF with B16a
They claimed that the HF pump coudln't handle the fuel delivery needs of the B16 and that it would be much faster with a new pump
Is there any truth to this?
My friend upgraded his fuel pump in his Integra Type R and has his stock one laying around, anyone know if it will fit?
Thanks

Hhmm I'm not sure. I didn't upgrade mine when I put my b18c in. I did a lot of research and never even heard it suggested.
Anyone have a definitive answer on this??

Not a definitive answer, but in the year that I have been partcipating in this forum I have never heard of anyone running into a problem of having the stock hf/dx/si pump not being adequate.
i would change it, and the type Rs fuel pump should work fine with a little customizing on the hanger for the pump, i know because i got a upgraded integra pump on my SI, its just needs a little of time and customize.
I would say replace it.
The pump in your car is at least 12 years old, and fuel pumps do degrade as time goes by. the type R pump (same as GSR and Civic Si DOHC) will fit the CRX bracket with a bit of work. The Type R pump is smaller.
Here is a picture of a Type R pump on a CRX pump bracket.
the big pump to the left was the old CRX pump.
So as you can see it fits and works well.

You have to drop the tank. You don't have to drain it but low fuel would help with the weight of it. Having people to help would be good too.

Is it necesary to drop the tank? I was told that it was very simple in that, all i have to do is open a panel that is in the rear of the car, and swap the fuel pumps?
Thats what my friend with the Type R said was involved in his car

88-91 civics/crxs unforunately do require you to drop the gas tank. Other year civics and integras have the fuel pump easily accessible from the top. It's not too hard of a job, a little tedious, but at least you'll have peace of mind when you are finished. I have a ITR pump in my CRX, took me about 2 hours to complete the install, including the time it took to drain 3/4 tank of gas.
HELLO? ladies and gentlemen.
the gsr and the type-r fuel pumps are exactly the same
97" gsr and type-r 17040-st7-a33 $370.84
98-up gsr and type-r 17040-st7-l31 $306.44
your welcome
oh yeah, by the way, you could get a fuel pump from a 90 mustang 5.0 255lph just like the paxton, bbk, etc. and you only have to bend the bracket a little to make it fit only $90.00 at a ford dealership

If its a free R pump then why not? I dont think it would make that much of a diff at all cosidering you are still using the same fuel filter maybe if you got a better flowing filter and a fuel regulater it woud all come together nice
