Highway speed sucks on jdm S1 tranny!!!!
Alright guys I just have a quick question. Am I the only one that feels this way or does the JDM s1 tranny not suck on the highway. When I race some one on the low end I am almost positive to win but when we get on the highway this tranny seems to just suck. It doesnt seem to keep within the power band of my lsvtec long enough. I was wondering if there is a better tranny for doing kinda both low end racing and highway racing?
Well, the S1 is a very tightly geared tranny as you have found out. You could try getting a Y1 or swapping in a LS fifth gear.
i feel the same way... the light turns green and by the time i get through the intersection im already in fifth gear. i think at 3000rpm in fifth im going like 55mph. how much does this ls fifth gear help? elaborate thanks
yea, but you SHOULD be revvin that thing....is your motor built to spin?did vavletrain in mine and redline 9400 (still building power) and 80 mph is some r's but not too bad.

I know that when I was in fifth with just a stock b18a bottom end before I did the head swap and with the usdm s1 it was alot better. Gas was cheaper lol.

S1 is fine for me, I'm just glad I didn't end up with a Y1. And for all the S1 complainers I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard finding a Y1 guy to trade with.
b17 trannys are cool .. i once had a b16 tranny then went to the b17 tranny then busted that and now im on a LS tranny .. i liked the b17 tranny most.
First gear in the JDM YS1 is quicker than the JDM S1, after that the gears are the same, going to the YS1 is of no benifit for this problem. The Y1 has a little better gearing for highway driving, but it is still not ideal. I plan to swap out the USDM Integra 5th to make mine better for highway driving.
i have a y1 tranny 5th gear 3100 rpms = 55mph
and im doubting anyone with a y1 tranny would trade for an s1 cause lsd is worth more. y1 is nice but id rather have taller gears.

Too much boost for the numbers I produced, to say the least.
I was running 1 bar <about 14 and a half PSI> when we finished tuning it... But we noticed something else while tuning the car... actually it came up and bit us in the ***...
When you're tuning on the dyno, and your car produces so much oil smoke from blown turbo seals that you CANNOT be in the dyno room even with an open garage door without choking on smoke, you've got a REALLY bad turbo. And I made this HP level on THAT bad of a turbo.
Oh well. Car's apart now, I sold the turbo and manifold to buy my new setup, which is in the mail as of next week. Inline Pro manifold, and a new BIGGER Precision turbo with a Tial wastegate and new 3" dp. SWEEEET!

i read in another post that swaping the 5th gear or any other gear will mess with the gear ratios of the tranny. is that true cause i have a jdm s1 tranny on my turbo crx and was thinking about this too. and like civic dragger said is their a good combo for low end and highway or is it one or the other?

ok so just for future refrence, to run the S1 tranny and still have good power on the highway I want a motor with a high redline, and makes lots of power to the redline right? Like the c5 right? Or something like it. Also Im not to fimilair with the tranny codes what car and motor does the S1 come from? Also what are the most common trannies?

Im saving up for a new trans for my crx. I have a JDM b16a an i wanna lsd trans but i wanna know what trans has the best gearing for my car before i drop the cash.
