Water pump and timing belt change
What is a decent price to pay a shop to do this?
I can't do this myself, I don't have the knowledge, even though I own a Helms manual.
A friend wants $600.00... this includes labor parts and change of seals and what not.

$600=WAY, WAY too much, especially from a friend? I don`t know if parts are more there than on the mainland, but I`d say this:
T belt: no more than $40.
H20 pump: maybe 75.
Misc parts, $30.
Time/labor: No more than 2 hours, even w/ hand tools. Even at $50 an hour + those parts, it should`nt be more than $300.(that`s what I'd charge...)

you got a FUCKED UP friend. If you have a civic, it's around $300 for both things, if you have an integra it's around $500. YOur so called friend is pretty fucked up. And by the way there are no seals to change! The new waterpump comes with a new gasket.

Labor is hella expensive around here though. Like $90/hr or so. What a rip.

hahaha..funny that you guys would bring this stuff up.
went to a honda dealer and had timing belt, accessory belts, water pump, labor and tranny flush. $500.
This is from a dealer, so I'm guessing you privately, it would be less.
Good luck...it's definitely a must if you want to keep your motor running.

1 1/2 hour to do a timing belt? You must be SUPER MECHANIC!
I don`t see where the difficulty lies within replacing a timing belt. It`s a very simple process, an H22 is a more complicated process, but a B-series timing change would potentially take less than an hour(assuming everything is in my hands, IE tools, parts, etc...). I fail to see where the problem is...

Maybe with a lift and air tools... working on jackstands sucks, then of course you have to support the engine while you remove the driver side engine mount, and that crank pulley can be a real pain sometimes.

run in there somewhere
yeah, that hammer is towards you! HAHAHAHAHAHA 1 HOUR TO DO A B-SERIES TIMING BELT?????? YOU MUST BE THE BEST MECHANIC ON THE WORLD. let's see what we need to do.
Ps: This is in a shop
put car on the lift
disconnect battery
take off LF wheel
remove splash shields
remove drive belts (3)
remove LF motor mount
remove cruise control (swing over the side)
remove wires
remove valve cover
remove timing covers
remove crank pulley
remove AC adjusting idler
turn crank so timing marks match up
loosen tensioner
remove timing belt
remove water pump if you doing water pump too (15 more minutes)
clean surface of water pump
install timing belt
turn engine 2 revolutions to make sure timing marks line up
reinstall timing covers
install crank pulley
intall ac ideler
install valve cover
reinstall wires
reinstall belts
reinstall cruise control
reinstall motor mount
check timing
adjust timing
And this is with the help of air tools! You must be THE ULTIMATE MECHANIC
1 hour? To do this? I DON'T THINK SO! ASK TOM IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME! B18c5-eh2

You`re a moron.
You have no idea who you`re talking to. You`re also assuming I have all the extra part you describe on my specific vehicle...And again you`re horribly wrong.
Untill you understand who it is you arguing with, I`d suggest you just keep your little comments to yourself, son.
Are you going to run and tell the teacher on me too? LoL.
Newbies.....................?

We not talking about your car! WE talking about someone that has a civic with AC, power steering, cruise and all. Seems like you the biggest moron!
The Honda dealer in Florida here charges $400.00. The mechanic I go to charged me $250 and he adjusted the valves as well. I think I would call the dealer and see what they charge and then look around some. $600.00 is robbery.

On a B-series engine, the cam sprockets must be removed, then the rear timing belt cover, to get to the water pump bolts.
Time/labor:
Labor is hella expensive around here though. Like $90/hr or so. What a rip.

What does this have to do with Newbie? So you saying that you know everything, and all newbies don't know their stuff? Damm if that makes you feel good, whatever then.
