Default Water pump and timing belt change

What is a decent price to pay a shop to do this?

I can't do this myself, I don't have the knowledge, even though I own a Helms manual.

A friend wants $600.00... this includes labor parts and change of seals and what not.

$600=WAY, WAY too much, especially from a friend? I don`t know if parts are more there than on the mainland, but I`d say this:

T belt: no more than $40.
H20 pump: maybe 75.
Misc parts, $30.

Time/labor: No more than 2 hours, even w/ hand tools. Even at $50 an hour + those parts, it should`nt be more than $300.(that`s what I'd charge...)

you got a FUCKED UP friend. If you have a civic, it's around $300 for both things, if you have an integra it's around $500. YOur so called friend is pretty fucked up. And by the way there are no seals to change! The new waterpump comes with a new gasket.

2hrs minimum. A h22 in a prelude is somewhere around 2-3 hours and then 30mins per acc and they have 3 acc stock. Then parts cost and the labor time. So they can charge you for 3-4 hours or more for labor but it may only take 1½-2hrs depending on how good the mechanic is. Shops go by what the manufacturer releases as times of repair for a specific things on their vehicle. They have ppl that assemble and disassemble motors and cars at the factory to gauge how long it takes and what must be done, etc to fix the vehicle. This apply to mostly larger repair shops or the dealer though.

Labor is hella expensive around here though. Like $90/hr or so. What a rip.

hahaha..funny that you guys would bring this stuff up.
went to a honda dealer and had timing belt, accessory belts, water pump, labor and tranny flush. $500.
This is from a dealer, so I'm guessing you privately, it would be less.
Good luck...it's definitely a must if you want to keep your motor running.

I certainly hope you did`nt point that hammer at me...

I don`t see where the difficulty lies within replacing a timing belt. It`s a very simple process, an H22 is a more complicated process, but a B-series timing change would potentially take less than an hour(assuming everything is in my hands, IE tools, parts, etc...). I fail to see where the problem is...

Maybe with a lift and air tools... working on jackstands sucks, then of course you have to support the engine while you remove the driver side engine mount, and that crank pulley can be a real pain sometimes.

Jack stands own. I use them all the time, I rarely use air, although I do admit that pully can be frustrating....Just use air or hold the flywheel, problem solved. Still less than an hour, start to finish....OK, an hour and a half, there has to be a run in there somewhere

You`re a moron.

You have no idea who you`re talking to. You`re also assuming I have all the extra part you describe on my specific vehicle...And again you`re horribly wrong.

Untill you understand who it is you arguing with, I`d suggest you just keep your little comments to yourself, son.

ASK TOM IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME! B18c5-eh2
Are you going to run and tell the teacher on me too? LoL.

Newbies.....................?

The Honda dealer in Florida here charges $400.00. The mechanic I go to charged me $250 and he adjusted the valves as well. I think I would call the dealer and see what they charge and then look around some. $600.00 is robbery.

On a B-series engine, the cam sprockets must be removed, then the rear timing belt cover, to get to the water pump bolts.

WHOA there stunna, where the hell do you live?HOLLYWOOD? thats bananas! I'd say get a new friend. 1.)Does he even work in a shop? 2.) I'd ask him further about the cam seals. Sure he's not talking about something with the cam gears? Anyways, thats ridiculous. Go to a garage if your not feeling brave. At least if they're any bit reputable, they have a guarantee along with it. good luck man
