CX and VX are about the same with same wheels and engines.
CX has a lighter engine and heavier wheels
VX has a heavier engine and lighter wheels...only big difference, plus the VX has cloth interior, rather than vinyl seats..BLAH!
But I'd say CX cause VX is a little more money

cx is total base model w/ no luxory anything, not even a passenger side mirror! i think the vx comes w/ the pop up sun roof or something, the hx looking wheels, econovtec motor...and some other crap. Just get a cx because it'll be a whole lot cheaper, meaning more money for a swap
Most of what has been said has been true. If you could get a similar vx or cx at the same price, I would go with the vx. THe vx has side mirrors, tachometer, no moonroof/sunroof (correcting someones post), light wheels (9lbs i think), and is wired for vtec or soemthing. But the VX is usually more expensive than the CX and there were many more cx's made im sure. EIther would be good choices.
Actually, not all VX's have two side mirrors. Mine only came with one. And they sure don't have moonroofs! The wheels are light as hell, but if you upgrade your brakes, it may be irrelevant cuz you will be tossing the fronts out anyway. Another perk of the VX is the wiring. After 92 models (which all were wired), only the VX and Si were wired for VTEC (someone correct me if I am wrong).
My cx has a passenger side mirror and cloth interior........
about what car to get...if you dont mind running new wires for VTEC solenoid, pressure switch, and a knock sensor get a cx...or get the all ready wired VX or a 92 CX(they should be wired from the factory)
both are good starting points
is it going to be strictly for track? or daily driver as well? if track, then go with cx but if it's going to be a daily driver, just get some luxuries with the car... you won't regret it.
No let me tell you when you really will appreciate the swap. When you have been driving around in a 95 CX that has a rod knocking, timing belt has jumped time , wont rev over 3,000 rpm's and you dont want to spend any money on a Stock CX motor to get it fixed because you almost have enough to get the tranny for your swap. And the ****** smokes like a train.

when it comes down to it, price is going to be the big choice.
My Vx has a moonroof and both mirrors, Ive noticed some vx's also have vtec-e on the valve cover while others do not. The vx is very light i can pick up the rear quarter and totally get the wheels off the groud, with full interior.
