Before I put my car up for winter it burned no oil. I just recently pulled it out of storage and I checked my oil today and it was low. Anybody have any clue why it would just suddenly start to burn oil?

not sure why, but seems that burning oil is a fact of life for a lot of people with a b18c5

 

you think you burn oil? drive mine for a week.

 

You could of been burning off the moisture in the oil. Sometimes cars exhibit 'extreme' oil consumption but instead just burn off water/fuel in the oil.

car burns only when driven in Vtec for 3 hours strait.

 

So its normal then? I dont run the **** out of my car so I dont think its my driving. Maybe I should change the oil and see what that does. There are no leaks either

 

Definately change the oil... that crap has been sitting for months, you don't want in sludging up @ 8400 rpms

 

Fresh oil sitting over the winter will not sludge. Bad practice if you did NOT change your oil before storing it. Point being, change your oil (try heavier if you choose... 10w30 or maybe 40) and keep an eye on it.

 

dont feel so bad. i burn 1 1/2 quarts of valvoline 10w-30 all climate dino oil in 3000 miles. 94 jdm gsr motor with 70,000 miles

****- that isn't anything... Marc's Oil-Tanker burned a quart on the way to tampa from o-town and another on the way back!

 

I changed my oil rigth after i stored it so it is fresh oil, who cares I think it is time for a rebuild

losing oil just means something in the engine is slightly worn and probably in need of replacement within a few thousand miles. it sucks to lose a quart of oil every 1500 miles. i feel its just something the motors were designed to do because of there power potential. built b-series motors built na h-series motors

damn right, and if she burns coolant she's a slob

 

My car doesnt burn oil anymore, I changed the oil and its all good

hmm... I burn 1qt every 800mi, so that's right under 2qt every 1600mi? I think I win besides, this is 20w50, not 10w30 compression test = 185, 180, 155, 160. New piston rings soon.

 

I feel special knowing my R engine doesn't burn anything.

I see a little smoke when I start it up and it's cold.. and when I hit vtec, but my oil level is always the same.

 

after reading this post i checked my oil and noticed my oil was VERY low!!..i guess i am also burning oil like mad since i just changed it 1600 ago

 

itr 624 welcome to the burning oil club haha. no big deal i think having a pretty decent power making vtec motor and losing 2 quarts between oil changes isnt too bad.
