My car needs a rebuild. Period. The head is fine, the shortblock is pretty phucked. The car's nickname is the Oil Tanker which was funny at first, but not really funny anymore.
Option 1: D has a GSR block that he picked up from a friend for a really good price. It needed a Type R crank which was already purchased as well as new pistons, rings, bearings, this, that, etc.. It needs machine shop work as well. It will not be ready before expo. Price is estimated with Labor around 1200-1500
Option 2: Called my ***** Len
up at Baranco Acura. He has a killer deal on a complete Type R shortblock. All you have to do is switch water pumps out and sensors and ****, put it on and drive away. P1 Automotive will be doing the work
and break in period would be my 500+ mile trip home plus 1100+ back to expo the following weekend. Price - almost double of option #1, but peace of mind and it will be ready before expo (hoping Len has one in stock)
Also, the block will say C5 instead of C1 in case I ever wanted to sell the car.
I just want this **** to be fixed.

IF it was me, I would try to get a B20.
EDIT: option #2 would be my next choice

Personally I'd want to run at Beaver. So I'd go the more expensive route, if I had the money.
Also.... future buyers might be skeptical of why there is a c1 block in there.

not when his listed parts will be going into the c1.
jonas: I think that was sarcasm on mickey's part

Yes, warranty would be the deciding factor for me as well. I would get the ITR engine so like you said (if u must sell u can)
Also, what did you do to your engine, just run it like a ITR should be run

rebuild current motor and install better pistons.
What would be the advantage of using the GS-R block if it needs machine work and a new crank? I could understand using it if it were ready to swap in right now, but since it needs work why not just perform the work on your current block?
Option 2
run a complete stock b18c engine... You don`t need that crappy aftermarket internals to be fast. stock = most reliable.
PS:
Sell your old block to someone who wants to install better pistons

Guess it depends on what's wrong with it. Is it just the rings?
er... cast pistons and rings don't like nos and detonation.

won't know till we tear dat biznatch open :fire:
Doing that also gives you more options. Like you could sell the old block or use it as a foundation for a new killa engine if you wanted to go that route. You could resleeve or overbore it, throw in high compression pistons and all that good ****. Then you swap the rebuilt block back in and sell the new one.
either rebuild with better pistons and rods, or buy a new c5.
Good thing about option 2 is you can sell the old parts for some extra $$ as well.

Although I think if he broke a ring land, oil consumption would be the last of his problems. Just guessing, but I don't think there's anything wrong with the motor that a re-hone and a new set of rings couldn't fix.
I don't see why so many people are suggesting the brand new C5 block. I wouldn't spend $2000+ on that. Less than half that would almost certainly put the old block back on the road, and with higher compression pistons.

I did not think about that. CTR pistons or Toda piston
