Default Clutch Talk

Ok so I know ACT clutches have a good rep and a lot of people recommend them.
I started calling places for prices and for the heavy duty kit they want $680 CDN (cheapest). I never realized they were so expensive.

One place I called recommended the Exedy organic and its only $380.
I know a few shops who stick with ACT cuz they've never had any problems with them and they say the same can't be said for the Exedy. BUT, considering my engine is practically stock with 170,000km I really can't justfy spending an extra $300. My clutch is worn and I just want something better than stock. They are made in Japan and provide a lot of OEM equipment.

What do you guys think of Exedy Clutches? I know a few ITR ppl had problems with them. Also in the same $400 price range is the Centerforce. How are they?

any input is appreciated...

Go with an ACT clutch. I have one, and I love it. I've been able to get a 4th gear chirp pretty easily with mine

FX300 (Stage III)

· Heavy-duty street & racing system
· Holding capacity 110% over stock
· Heavy-Duty reinforced pressure plate
· Hi-Leverage™ pressure ring design
· Sprung hub/cushioned disc
· Steel backed Segmented Carbon/Kevlar

You recommend Stage 3 on a stock engine.. you are kidding right? Stage 1 is already

FX100 (Stage I)
· High performance street system
· Holding capacity 70% over stock
· Heavy-Duty reinforced pressure plate
· Hi-Leverage™ pressure ring design
· Sprung hub/cushioned disc
· Steel backed organic friction material

Getting back to my original post does anybody have any comments about Exedy clutchs??

You're compairing sprung and unsprung clutch, along with organic to non-organic I believe.

Most of the people I know have ACT with either the HD or Xtreme preasure plates and haven't had any probs. I know http://www.nleonline.com has the kits starting at $318 for the 4 puck w/HD pressure plate kit, up to $381 for the 4 puck extreme kit.
Not to mention the Fidanza aluminum flywheels are going for $279.00 shipped IIRC.

(and if you're having a shop do this, it's usually only a couple bucks more to have them do the flywheel at the same time... and even if you stick with your old one it will need to be re-surfaced)

i have an ACT Xtreme Pressure Plate and a SS Organic Street Disc, paid $415 shipped. it's definately streetable, just make sure you have strong legs, otherwise it has the ability to make your left leg tired. wimps that drive my car complain about it.

Also, if you ever want to snap an axle with less than 200whp, this will do the trick.
Honda's axles seem to hold up okay, but advanced auto part axles will snap on the first hard launch...i've gone thru 5 in one month.

no im not kidding. this how clutch masters clutchs work.

all the presure plates on clutch master are all the same but the disk is differnt on all stages

on ACT they have differnt disk and differnt apps for pressure plate.

and to answer your question yes u can use a stage 3 on a stock motor . lasted on my boys car for 4 yrs no problems and dat bitoch still grabs.

stage 1 and 2 suk almost like a stock clutch.

most of the peopple on here either put new clutchs in cuz the clutch they have is not holding the power down or the clutch is slippn. another thing is why da HELL would u want a stiff clutch you can get da same grip from clutch master but less trying to work the dam pedal its self. trust me and my boys have tried all the clutchs that have mentioned ACT CM Cn ExedY eTc IMO Clutchmasters. im not here to start nutn so you dont have to get all crunk. just trying to help you out. buddy.

I don't have any info on act clutches but I am looking into them right now and also into exedy. I do have experience with the clutchmasters stage 2. I've had that in my 97vtec for about 9 months(about 40k miles), it's slipping already. don't have too much done to the car except for cai, pulleys, greddy evo and a fidanza flywheel. I'm not too pleased with the clutchmasters, it lost it's crisp feel after about a month after the break in period. People say they have luck with them but from personal experience I would not recommend it.
Also my stage 2 is much much stiffer than the stock feel. unless your FI, I think putting a stage3(organic carbon compound) or 2(organic kevlar) is overkill. I would stick to a stage 1 if I'd do it again with CM.

As far as exedy goes, (from what I've read) they are a primary oem standard clutch supplier. Their racing clutches are competitively priced with counterparts in act and Cm. Clutchcityonline.com seems to be a good source for exedy. I'd contact them. hope this helps.

I like my Exedy organic alot. I haven't sprayed on it yet so I don't know if it holds as well as they claim but off the bottle it holds well. Also the thing feels like stock. I think my little sister could even drive the car with the Exedy.

I'm not 'crunk' I just think the Stage 3 is overkill for a stock motor thats all.
