Default bought a hatch yesterday, have some question

welp, finally bought an ef. its a 91 DX with a locked up motor (bhg & probably other stuff) i think its a 4 speed, is that possible? the car has a problem with the door and hatch, when unlocking them you have to wiggle the key a certain way to open it. is this a known problem or should i just replace the locks?

also, for now i'll either put the stock motor in it or a d16a6. can someone give me the going rates on these motors ? (longblock only)

oh, and pics: http://images.spankaveli.com/ef/

Price: $200 :D

in overall looks in good condition
xcept from bumper light and the dings on hood....
but othe tthan that u got a nice buy,,
if its a 4 speed trans, then it is a STD model with DX hatch, and center tail.....
and yes if u wiggle the key it means the key its all used and worn out.... get a new one from a dealership made for 3.88...
for the price of a D16A6 or stock motor lngblock i will rather put a SOHC VTEC wich its going to be maybe 100 more than those.....

well honestly thats a heck of a deal of only $200! Nice job! I love that color and suprized to see how mint the body is.

well about the door locks i would just get new ones. If you don't mind it dont fix it.
well the most D16a6 motors will have high miles on them advrage about 120-180,000 miles. for a really mint D16a6 I would pay about $300(includeing tranny and complete changeover) for just the longblock they go gor about $100-150ish.

well, i just went to honda and spent 10 bucks to get 2 keys cut from the vin number. they work perfect :D

right now i'm in the middle of putting a d15b2 into it, waiting on finding some axles and a clutch....

thanks for the info guys!

btw i got my engine and tranny for 200 bucks, just needed to change oil pan gasket and rear main seal. i guess that's a good price....

the key is probably messed up because it is odd for all the locks to be like that. the person who made the key probably messed up. i bet its not an original key.

$200!!! I'm jealous. Where do you guys find these deals? Here in cali an EF with no motor goes for like $500-$700. And most of the time they have considerable body damage.
Anyway Good Buy Is the car going to be used as a commuter? Or is it a new project?

I paid 25$ for my black 91 Si Hatch with a Mint body(MAJOR RICE STICKERS!@!@!)I live in Northeast Philly in PA and ya just gotta find the right person( i think..no i'm sure he was a crackhead) Had to tow it home had no distributor or battery but i had them at home extra. Car runs great now only problem is the tranny was replaced with a 4 speed but i gotta extra one of those too. Can anyone else Beat the 100 or below price for a car? Partial Car? and Yes i actually managed to track down a signed title(took a few weeks) all in all a good deal for around here

Well, not that this is entirely important, but you should be aware that the car is either a '91 STD with a DX badge or it's a '88-'90 DX hatch, because the '91 DX hatches had painted bumpers. Obviously, if it's a 4 speed then it's an STD.

It's most likely a pre'91 DX hatch, though...

Good price, too

wow thats a steal! If you're looking for a D16A6, someone on the recycler is selling one with tranny for $250. Dunno what condition it is though. wow $200, and i thought my CRX for 2 grand was a pretty good deal. I bet your car would pull pretty nice with a SOHC Vtec swap Cant wait to swap out mine.

It's definitely an STD. 4spd and it has the d15b1...

Oh well, still got a good deal I suppose. Now I'm in search of DX/Si knuckles/axles and clutch.
