Symtoms of a ROLLED BACK Speedonmeter?
My brother had his car that my parents bought for almost 2 years. Its a 95' Accord Lx that we bought used from a wholesaler in sacramento. A lot of things were messed up in the car but my parents decided to buy it anyway because they didnt want to listen to me. They were sold by the new MACCO black paintjob and tinted windows. Anyway the numbers in the speedometer are all messed up. They are not alligned straight. Could this be a symtom of a rolled back speedometer? I will post pics when i get a chance to take em. If it is a rolled back speedometer what can i do? Report the dealership to DMV or Insurance? I really want to get the dealership back because I felt that they really hussled my parents and put my bro through a lot of **** trying to fix all the fucked up stuff in the car.

use google and find the california DMV website. Call them and go thru the phone prompts to talk to a live operator. Tell them you suspect odometer fraud in your family vehicle. Hopefully that dealership is still in business. If not, I don't think there is much you can do.
Calling insurance will do nothing. Car insurance is coverage for "casualty" not fraud.
Edit: what dmv can do (if the car has stayed in California it's whole life) is check the increasing miles per annual smog check. I think. That kind of info should be logged.
If the car was originally sold outside california and only came in to california in the past two years, your pretty screwed. There would be no record....state-to-state DMV's are NOT linked.

Here are pics. The speedometer says 143,953 as of 3/27/03. We got it with 80,xxx and the speedometer always looked like that. A friend told me my car might have a rolled back speedometer on it. Just want to be on the safe side.

not to be a douche, but the SPEEDOMETER reads 0mph. the ODOMETER reads 143,953.
SPEEDometer measures speed. not miles traveled.

Yeah uhh... I thought you had a valid point until you said the car has 143K on it and it was purchased with 80K. Its a little ******* late to be trying to get to some retribution here.

my car is a 95 LX as well, and the odometer numbers doesn't align correctly, so it could be part of the odometer and not a rolled back, but mine could be also rolled back, so i guess where F%#$*.
i can take pics if you want to see mine

Can you prove the numbers looked like that 2 years ago?
Maybe your brother is getting tired of the car and wants his money back so he messed with the odometer and is blaming dealer!

so far so good. keep or sell the shet

CaMiKaZi above offered to have it run for you for free, or you can pay Carfax something like $15 to do it.

my digits are not straight either, not a big deal. every single car I have owned except for my 1989 sable (electronic dash) had crooked digits.
you should always check carfax before buying a car. it was after we finally sold my civic, after i bought it with 60 k miles, and i was checking the next car with carfax, i found out that it actually had over 160K miles

I wanted to tell you my experiance with my accord. When I got my accord in july 2001 i noticed that the milles displayed were not alligned straight also. thinking the same thing frued, i got a car fax that car came out clean. A few months latter i decide to be cool and put reverse indaglow white face gauges
stupid mistake i broke the speedometer needle and i had to buy a new cluster when i got it from ebay i notice that the miles displayed did not line up also. Then on ebay i saw a few more gauge clusters that the numbers did not line up correctly. so i think that all the gauges are messed up.
this link is to a picture of one of my speedometers but you can notice it's not lines up right http://community.webshots.com/photo/...60610519NUgVib
