i don't know about GA but in NC you are looking to spend around$900 every six months for full coverage.......sorry if that doesn't help
****.
it's 72 degrees 320 days of the year and the beaches are great, so yeah... i know: quit my bitchin'
completely ot:
i was flipping through the paper today and i saw an article on the subject of how broke the state government is. something like $21.1 billion in the hole.
the first hurdle in recalling gov. davis passed without a hitch. cali cats know that we need a new governor, god that guy is a jerk.
Since you are 17 the title cannot be in your name, or if there is a leinholder involved, the loan cannot be in your name.
So our numbers aren't going to be of much use since the coverage will have to be through your parents (or whoever the actual owner of the vehicle is) policy -- Ask your parents.

I am 18, my dad had to be the co-owner of my car so I could be under his insurance. If I had my own policy, insurance would be $8000 (no ****) a year. Under his it is about $4500 a year. Still very high....It will probably significantly less in GA, since I live near DC.

I'd say expect to pay ~$1000 every 6 months if you are listed on your parents insurance as a secondary driver. If not on your parents insurance, my God, Id say the sky is the limit. I wouldnt be surprised if there were some companies who wouldnt sell you a policy at all.
I know I would not insure a 17yr male with a ITR if I were an ins co!

What kind of school system do you guys run? Jeez, kids today
To stay on topic: Under your own plan, you are going to be looking at HUGE dough. Try to get under your parents plan.

My father was paying a ridiculous amount even under his name... and when I turned 18 he added me to the plan and the prices skyrocketed to around 4200 a year.
Yes, I'm very lucky to have the parents I do.. and no, I'm not spoiled.
I surprised you didn't check out the cost of insurance, 'before' you purchased your ITR.... I did and I was 26 at the time!
Spoiled or not IYO - parents paying US$4,500 etc per year for insurance is just crazy
.... so all I can say is 'lucky you'!

My parents bought me my R when I was 16. Insurance was $270 per month. I'm 18 now and it is still $270 per month with me under his name. Yes, I consider myself very lucky to have parents that are willing to spend this kind of money on me.
I'm also 17 and in Virginia, with me being the primary driver and the car listed as a pleasure vehical we pay $2500/year. This is with the car still under my mom's name.
Your rate is gonna be high regardless. Some words of advice: don't drive like an IDIOT, treat your car well, and KISS your PARENTS *** for buying you and R..

Your parents probably have Geico or Progressive insurance, right? That number is waay to high. Those co's don't like to insure high risk individuals or high risk cars. So they quote you a sky high rate in hopes that you will go find your business elsewhere. When you go elsewhere they limit the risk in their pool of policy holders. Limiting the risk allows them to offer policies at lower prices to those people who drive humdrum grocery getters.
You should call a different ins co and see how much a policy would be for you as an individual. It can't hurt to try. You might only have to pay 2/3's to one half that rate with Liberty Mutual or State Farm insurance.

My R was bought for me brand new by my parents when I was 16 as well. I am 18 now. They insured the car under their name and put me down as a secondary driver. I think the insurance is something like $2800 a year.
