My ACT clutch....
Here is a picture of my 4 month old ACT Xtreme(ly $hitty) Pressure Plate, Stree/strip disk, and a ziplock bag with what I found when I took off the tranny/block stiffner and dropped the tranny. I didn't go over 3,500 RPM and 60mph for the first 1,000 miles because the thought of doing another clutch didn't really make me too enthusiastic. And only had 1 autox with it.

Heres a close up of the front of the PP, it shows that it was not torqued down crooked like it looks in the next.

You can see where the teeth are all bent in this picture.

And the other side.....

Side A of the friction disk....

Side B.....

Close up of the friction disk....

This one is for ACT and their high quality customer service.

Get this, they do offer a 90 day warranty; which happens to be how long it spent breaking it in. And they DO NOT warranty their product if used in ANY form of racing, yet they advertise high quality racing parts
. They said I COULD spend my hard earned $$ and send it to them for them to evaluate and replace at their own discretion
.
Thanks to Len I now have an OEM clutch which was at a very good price
.
I have to admit that I loved the ACT clutch for the 4 months that it lasted
.
Edit: That ziplock bag isn't all the friction material that I found. And that is the friction material all over the PP.

hm.. so u drive lower than 3500 rpm with your ITR for 1000 miles?!?! u gotta be kidding me..
I have ACT heavy duty, all i did was put it lower than 5000rpm for first 500 miles, and now it's running good except have a sound like tire spinning, but which most ppl say it's normal... werid for your case man..

*shrugs* I have the ACT HD PP and S/S disk. If you did <3500RPM for 1000 miles you are the man. I didn't get 2 corners from my house before I beat the **** out of it. STILL grabs like brand new.
Sorry to hear your misfortune. Serious note, it might be worth the 10$ to send to ACT. On the off chance they decide to cover it, you can get a free clutch out of the deal and even if you wont use another ACT again - sell it. It'll cover your stock clutch replacement cost and shipping. Worst case, you're out the 10$ you spent to send it to them. Make them send it back.
Good luck

I'm dead serious. I rarely even bring the car up to 4,000 RPM on daily driving anyways.

But that clutch looks tore up! Makes me a little uneasy.

seems like there has been a problem with just about every aftermarket clutch in an R. This is the first time I've heard something bad about ACT though. My local shop won't use anything else. Many boosted cars and race cars come out of there with ACT's. . .
Man, I've had my ACT HD/SS clutch for like 35k miles, tons and tons of drag racing, bunch of auto-x and a few HPDEs, and the thing is still strong, ive even had the tranny out and left it in because it looked so good! I dont know what that one self destructed though, any clues yet?? I mean, are you making tons of HP? Im making high 170 hp or so, and i beat the SNOt out of it...

The only mod to my knowledge is an AEM CAI and a ported TB. So I'm guessing with my stock 98 spec cams should be 160ish? I didn't beat the crap outta this clutch as hard as my 1st OEM which snapped all the springs and left the friction material fine.

I've had them send me the wrong 6 puck clutch disc.
There was something else once but I can't recall what it was.
I was always treated very well.
How exactly did you deal with them? The guy I talked to on the phone didn't sound like he wanted to replace it regardless WTF I did
.

uh...... im using a 4 times reused act hd pressure plate with a r6 disk and have had no problems..... looks like either a: you didnt tq the bolts down properly b: you didnt resurface the flywheel or c: somone needs to learn how to drive.
. Explain how install or driver error causes that. Like I said, If you look at the 2nd pic, the release bearing wore equally on the PP which shows it was torqued down properly which are 19ft lbs. that we did in incraments of 10 lbs, then 15, then 19 in the star pattern as instructed from the Acura Training Manual and Helms repair manual. Flywheel was resurfaced. And if it was my fault from riding it, the friction material would be worn down evenly not shredded apart

Anyone with common sense would know better than to throw away money and ship a broken product to a company that is not willing to stand behind their product if it malfunctions in any way. That is why I thought I would ask the well educated people on H-T(does not include Furry
) about what I should do about it.P.S. Commas(,) and semicolons(; ) make fragment sentences easier to comprehend.
Edit: semicolon+parentheses =

i learned everything i know from you. and act does stand behind their products. thats all we run around here and the few that have busted have been taken care of. sorry for my imperfect grammer mr.perfect its 3 am on a damn honda message board who the **** cares. geez
Now, can you honestly tell me you would send your clutch to them after they tell you this?
IF you pointed out that you can obviously see that I installed it wrong because this caused that; which in turn, caused all the friction material to shred off and make the PP bend, I wouldn't be so offended by your arrogant statements. But your statements come without any support proving your point that error was caused upon install or by driver.
Note: Why can't everyone just say something positive in their replies? I didn't want this to turn into a negative thread. The kind of crap that comes out of the mouths of people like Furry is what turns people, like myself, and others from seeking the advice of the knowledgable people on such a great forum.

DAAM i got the same clutch set up in my ride, but i haven't got on it just yet..i would call ACT and bitch! ask them how come they will not stand by their product and also ask them how much they would loose if they gave you a new clutch??, for sure not nearly 300$ for what the clutch cost around...
i would say "What the **** is your problem man?!?!".. and so on. but i live in so-cal so i would do it face to face

Question: I put in my ACT pressure plate and clutch (HDSS) 4000 miles ago. Ever since the installation, the clutch engagement has been really high (the clutch pedal is almost fully UP before the clutch engages). As if it was at the end of it's service limit. I haven't noticed any degradation in performance, and have done a few track days on the clutch.
Anyone else had this issue? Or does yours engage "normally" down low?
