go for it. with the b-series you got to have poly-eurothane mounts, I hate mine. If you want your car to feel like a go cart go for the b-series (it's a hell of a lot faster) but if you want speed with a nice smooth ride, go for the D and turbo it.

Why do both you of you say switch to B? He was asking about a SOHC Vtec motor. Not if he should switch and get a B16a. Keep on topic for the thread. If you want to argue about D and B then take it to the General forum or find that old post that never got anywhere.

You dont see why people do d series? Welll lets see, pick up a z6 for like 300 bucks. B16 is about 1200 shipped, mounts 400, thats 1600. You run high 14s. A Z6 in a CRX runs about 15.6 or so, maybe better, i hit a 15.8 with just exhaust and vtec controller, no header no intake, etc. The best B16 1/4 mile I have seen was 15.1, I have seen LS hit 15.3 so.. With the extra money that you save on the Z6 you can put a cam, and sqeeze a 50 shot and run a mid 14. And have a lot more fun doing it. Just my opinion, I just blew a Z6 last week and laughed about it because parts are easy to coem by.

but you're forgetting about the greater potential that b-series motors have. sure they cost more money from the get-go, but dollar for dollar on mods after that you'll get much better performance out of a b-series.

and for the engines . for ex.. i bought my engine for 100 bucks..... I/H/E and i ran a 15.4 with 4 codes, DX tranny and no VTEC fuel map... for the price of a B16A engine only. not counting all the mounts and stuff..... anyways they are good for the bucks

Hey, definitely go for the D16. Before I had the swap, I wanted a B16 really bad. Previously I had a dohc zc in my 89 hatch and it only ran 15.2... but after putting in my D16Y8, I ran 14.8----only cost me 400 for the entire swap (engine tranny ecu) I know I could've ran 14.7, but clutch started slipping.

Here's my setup:
89 hatch with full interior
steelies with extremely bald tires (belt showing!)
97 D16Y8 motor
p28 ecu
Focuz headers
generic 3 year old dirty intake
muffler shop 2.25 inch exhaust piping with generic ebay muffler

That's all that's done to the car! basically i/h/e
here's the timeslip to prove it:

I spliced the obd1 ecu plugs onto the obd0 ecu harness. Not too pretty but it works fine w/o check lights so who cares. most of the runs I ran that day were around 14.8-14.9 range. ppl said that i can get much better times with better 60ft times. After i put in my act 6-puck, I'm going to take it to the track again and see how it does.

i wanted to do the B series really bad, but if i did why go b16? just for 30 more hp and im paying over 1500 more.. if i went B series id go either GSR or Type-r or H22A. b16 is da sux!

so with my low budget, and very small mechanical skills i bought a D16Z6 off an automatic ex from 1995 with 53k miles. i paid 600 dollars for it but hey its legit, came from a really nice place around here and not some kid on the street that who knows where its been. i rounded up all new parts for the swap. and today i should get my final products. here are some pics of what i have so far

http://bootlab.ma.cx/sirex/Removal

i plan on building the single cam to handle 15psi hopefully see 250whp or more out of it.
