Default painted kosei k1

i have received and started to paint my new kosei wheels.

remove the stickers, i eventually switched to straight blade which worked much better.

i sanded the wheels with 400grit paper to roughen up the clearcoat; the wheels turned a milky shade. i then primered the wheels with 2 coats of plasti-kote sandable primer from pep boys. i didn't bother wet sanding the primer so let's hope the paint sticks!

comparo

weapon of choice. fyi, i took 5 of these little cans to do 3 coats on 4 wheels. make sure you buy enough paint before you start because it might be hard to find the same color again. i know this....

the almost final product. the color is very dark (maybe too dark?). i'll post pictures with tires next week.

ha! note the splash shield in the last picture. the mounting plugs were torn off long ago from too many autox cone impacts. at vir in february, the splash guard came loose and tangled with the tire; zip ties now own splash guards.

did you end up getting the 38 offset k1s from tire rack??

I'm still trying to find the distributor that picked up all the 45s, but I may still have to go back and get the 38s regardless.

Great job painting them though

You painted silver ones? I thought they were white.

Regardless, looks good. I think I normally average 2.5 cans of paint for 4 wheels.

just a note: where your lugnuts make contact with the wheel make sure the paint is rubbed off at that point, making it metal to metal contact with no paint layer between

before the paint will eventually rubs off with use it will make your lugnuts come loose very easily under normal driving

yes, these are 38+ offset. i haven't test fit them with azenis yet, but there are several people here with no issues. if i find the don't fit, i will cry as obviously i can't return them to tirerack.

They used to be offered in gunmetal, but I don't think they are anymore. I have a set of the 16x7.5" +43mm K-1s in Gunmetal...

THANK YOU

You just explain why I had loose lugnuts at the VIR last month. I was using my new "painted" wheels at the track and found that all the lugnuts came loose after each session which was never happen before !!!! Now I guess it must be caused by the paint.

no local autozone and walmart's stock was less than desireable. the paint i used is for autobody, but i don't know what real difference there would be other than packaging/marketing.
