Default Just registered first question

Hey guys i just registered here, i have looked at the board for short amount of time like a year ago and I'm looking at it more eversince superhonda.com isn't working for me. Any of you guys know what's up with it can you even access it? I know you guys don't like superhonda or clubsi or anything like that but I was just wondering if you could help me out.

ANyway here's another question, I already did a search so don't ask me to do it. I was wondering about the r motor and gs-r one. I know the type r and gs-r have a diff head, different pistons, cams, all that stuff. but if you started out with a gs-r block and put the type r stuff on it is it the same? Because i know if you put a vtec head on an ls engine like a type r one it's a different engine, is this becuae it has a longer stroke or something? Thanks for your help.

if you would have searched its all there man.
cost to make a gsr turn into a type r is same price as just buying an r. And it sounds like you couldnt do it yourself, so add a few thousand to have someone do it for you.
What are your goals, why do you want to do this?

Welcome to HT.

You can use the SEARCH function.
I don't know why members say the search fucntion is down.
I just used a little while ago and works just fine.

Look under "ITR motor", for example.

Wow you guys are quick. Hey thanks for your help, I was just wondering if the gs-r motor has the same potential as a type r motor staying NA. I don't have a car yet im poor but I like hondas. My brother had a 2000 si and thats what got me interested in hondas. In the future I wanna buy a 99-00 hatch and do a swap and stuff like that so I was just wondering if I could build up a c1 to the same levels a c5 can be built up to. Thanks again

The B18C1/C5 blocks are the same, the internals are different and top end is different of course.

Also, I wanna learn how to work on my own car when I get one, I like doing things myself and it's cheaper, how did you guys learn? Would an auto class at some college be useful or something like that? I'm not talking about doing engine swaps or anything because I don't have the tools for that but stuff like installing cams or a head.

Welcome..

A lot of people say that you can swap in a GSR motor and for an extra grand have something that will kick an ITRs ***.

Well, they are wrong. The ITR motor is the complete package. Tranny, head, all that stuff adds up to something that would cost more than 2500 to obtain with a GSR motor.

If I were you, keep saving. There are plenty of places that sell ITR swaps from the low $4k range. It'll be well worth it if you wait.

Fowler: While I agree (tranny/LSD is biggest difference in the driveline IMO, my I/H/VAFC B18C1 put down 169whp where ITRs put down 160-170 in general stock), you didn't really answer his question.

To clarify, you do agree that the GS-R BLOCK (shortblock minus internals) is the same correct?

If one already had an ITR head and was going to build the bottom end and needed to buy one a GS-R shortblock is the route I'd take. Cheaper and you're going to replace the internals anyways. ITR crank can be found for cheap if you want one.

Buy a good set of quality tools, get your hands on a shop manual and start turning some bolts. Over time you'll build up confidence, and you'll develop some cool war stories.
