Skunk2 Stage 1's vs Toda A's (Archive searching disabled :\ )
What is the difference between these two cams? It seems the skunk2 cams are considerably cheaper, is this just another example of you get what you pay for, or are skunk2's comparable to Todas? I'm essentially looking for streetability/reliability with a little more power
Thanks dudes

I'd rather spend money on mods for my car than spend money driving my car for a few hours at this point... flame me all you want, I don't care. I'd rather have more fun every time I get in my car. I've got a small list of **** I want to buy, then I'll go to HPDE's.
I'm not flaiming, but you say you don't have money to go to the track.
If you just made it clear that what you said above is your real reason, fine.
You have no idea what you are missing out on at the track, and the 'few hours' are the best fun I have EVER had in ANY car, period.
There's a reason why all of us IL/WI people keep bugging you to go to the track, and it isn't so we can say we assimilated you. It's because the track fuggin rocks, most who go get hooked and go often.

how bout jun2s
I had them in my hybrid hatch. I didnt have any problems. I have seen good #'s with the Skunk stage 1's on typeR's with very little mods.
I say give it a shot if you want cams.

jun stage 2's are nowhere near as aggressive as sk2 stage 2/toda b/jun stage 3...
mike k ran some tests and realized decent gains from just dropping a jun stage 2 intake cam into an otherwise stock b18c5. i shouldve saved the dyno plots but i didnt...
the deal with upgrading valvetrains is so that you can raise your redline and make more peak whp... which is very necessary for sk2 stage 2/jun 3... and is also beneficial for toda b's. sk2 stage2 and jun 3 LOVE high compression and higher redlines... if you are looking for a reliable street cam profile, toda a, skunk2 stage 1 and jun stage 2's will all do you just fine on the stock ECU and valvetrain.
at dyno day leo will be dynoing his built b18c1 with toda a's, and i will be dynoing my pseudo-built b18c1 with skunk2 stage 1's. whp will be different from a b18c5 but you can at least take a look at the power and torque curves to get a rough idea of what you might make on your motor.

I don't want to upgrade the whole valvetrain at this point, I'm under the impression jun2's, skunk stage 2's and toda b's require better valve springs and timing belt? I'd rather stick to something more stock.

I wont even comment... Its so damn funny that people by R's, and just modify the hell out of them just to get that extra benifit to go to and from work, Really classic.
I thought the R in type-R stood for racing?
If you just want parts for shock value and to show off at the meets and BBQ's, you should have just got a Focus or a show car. And just when I thought you was half way decent Kenny(oops)I mean Eli... The more Im on the R forum, the more I see people get R's just so they can say"Look at me. Im a attention *****"...
Idiot

Jun 2 intake cam? That's very interesting. Might be neat to try that out... for fun.
Chris, I was going to try this set-up before. But being on a budget and would rather have my car ready for the track, I just decided to stick with the R cams for now. The Jun2 cam goes for like $465(@ Kwai).
But I also think you would benifit more from using both Jun cams in/ex. And if you want some real nice power, JUN3 cams are sicko's y0... If you guys go to any drag events this summer, you'll see a bunch of Kwai cars running JUN 3's. And alot of them on stock bottom ends. Most are all mid to low 13 second cars.
And alot of them are EG's, I would love to get them out on Gingerman and see how they would do.
mike k's test showed that there was very little gain to be had when adding the jun2 exhaust cam... and certainly not worth an extra $500...
jun3's are amazing but you've got to keep in mind that valvetrain, ecu, bumped compression are all needed to let the cams do their thing. for people who want a quick upgrade - beefier midrange and improved torque, just buying a jun2 intake cam and some gears and doing some dyno tuning is a nice cheap alternative. i was planning on doing this to the hatch... and then came the rust

I hate it when people flame other R owners for "not using the R for what it was made for."
Not everybody has the extra money and/or time to go road racing.
I drag race my R. It's pretty quick for doing something it wasn't meant to do

I guess you would have a problem with people that flame R owners. Because you are one of the many posers that fall into that catagory... I mean most of you act as if your car is god sent or something. But then all you do is post pics of your new rims or some freaking meet.
Yippeee Yahooo for you
And if I hear one more R owner say that bullshit about not having money to go to the track, But then post pics of some 1500 rim&tire combo, 900 header, 600 exhaust I think they should be banned(Off with their heads).... You own a R, and every JDM/USDM high price performance part to go on it, but then always complain about not being able to afford a HPDE. That makes no sense to me. And if HPDE are to much for you, how about an Auto-x event? I guess that cost to much money too, and you dont want to get any dents or dings on that JDM front end from hitting cones huh????

Your an American Idol y0...
And arent you the same guy that sold his HID kit cause the light beam wasnt the color you wanted???? LMFAO, yahooooooooo

ok this thread is way off topic..... in the end, one can do whatever he wants with his car... its really none of our business whether someone uses the R to just get groceries or to drop kids off at day care. a travesty? perhaps. buts not for us to say.
now if you front like you are going to track the car but then never make any effort to, thats a different story. but again, its still the owner's decision.

"I'd love to go to the track on April X, but I dont' have the money."
"I wish I could go but I'm busy, I'll definitely go when I am available."
Then they spend big cash on mods, even though 'they don't have the money' and have NO INTENTION of going to the track.
Don't front, if you don't want to track, don't say you do just to be 'cool' or to fit in. Individuality is a GOOD thing: mod your car how you want, and drive it when you want, where you want. Just don't be a poser or someone who does what the group does to fit it. No one likes a poser.
I flame those who say they have every intention of doing one thing, then contradict themselves almost immediately.

Back OT, There have been some Skank2 Stage 1's on here making 200whp with t00ning. Pretty good. Not sure about A's. Basically it depends on the tuning, as they are fairly comparable cams.

You post up about something and ask for advice and sometimes people just tell you more than just an answer to your question

Yea, rob, you are a JDM y0 show kaa **** because you don't want to go to the track.
