Hi, I have a 96 Accord Lx, auto with basic mods.. i/h/e . For some reason lately the car has been stopping at random times. Like going 70 on the freeway and all of the sudden it just loses speed and i try to give gas nothing happens and then look down and see the rpm's drop and all the guages just go dead and the car is dead.. again I was in traffic today and all of the sudden the car just died. I can start it up right after by putting it in park and starting. I thought it might be a computer problem so I rest it but still no luck, any one have suggestions? The car has really low miles and there is no check engine light.. Thankyou for your time

 

Normally, if the engine shuts off while the ignition is on, the idiot lights should light up. (ie: oil, batt, etc.) If it shuts down and you have no idiot lights I would highly suspect the ignition switch itself. There is/was a recall on them and I think it covered your vintage. Call a dealer or two and inquire about it.

yes i do have a alarm with remote start, but I dont think the alarm is causing the car to stop, but just in case I am going to check the wires and maybe disconnect it to see if thats the problem
