Default How to tell if you have a JDM ECU???

I bought a JDM B18C swap from a private seller recently and I need to find out if the ECU that came with the swap is indeed JDM.

I need to know if this ECU is looking for the crank flux sensor or not. (car isn't starting).

Any help would be appreciated.

well if you have JDM P72 ecu that should've came with your JDM B18C engine, your ecu should look like this (small type):

My JDM ecu is OBD2. Does that make a difference?

yes it does....
JDM OBD2 P72 ecu's are not small like the OBD1 version seen above. They look like a normal length ecu. The way to tell if you have a JDM OBD2 P72 ecu is either by (1) the part number sticker on the side and (2) by testing it out; either unplugging the VTEC pressure switch (green plug on Vtec solenoid)....turn car on, if you don't get a check engine light for VT pressure switch then its a JDM VTEC ecu. If you get a check engine light for 2nd 02, VT pressure switch, or CKP sensor then its a US ecu....as JDM OBD2 VTEC ecu's don't look for those sensors.

make sense?

Posion was telling me that between the P72 OB1 and 2 that the plugs are slightly different? Also how can you tell by the # between OBD1 and 2?

ok, OBD1 and OBD2 ecu's have totally different style plugs, check out this diagram:

most of the JDM OBD2 ecu's are the 96-98 style you see above...even into the 99-00 year(s). There is a few JDM OBD2b ecu's w/the 99-00 style plugs usually CTR (PCT) ecu's.

The 'P72' part number sticker lets you know the ecu is a GSR/B18C ecu, whether it be OBD1 or OBD2.

'P72' is the number you want to look for on the side of your ecu, Gigantor.
