Default Painted Valve Cover...

Just wanted to post my valve cover pics. I just finished it today and reinstalled it. I followed GSRedline's instructions for it. It ended up being 6 coats, waiting every 15 minutes, then it dried for a couple hours. The only problem I had were when my friend tightened a bolt instead of loosening it and ripped the top part off. I also purchased Magnecore wires today because the old ones had tears. This is a really cool project, it doesn't take too long and it's cheap. I did this all for $4.32 at Pep Boys. One more thing, I used the Plasti-Kote engine enamel. Here's the pics...

I know my engine is dirty, I'll clean it eventually. Any questions about it, ask GSRedline or me. Peace

This is taken from GSRedline, slightly modified to leave out the part about him and his girlfriend.

:: one can of Plasti-Kote Engine Enamel(resists heat up to 500 degrees farenheit(sp?)., rubbing alcohol, razor blades

1. take off valve cover, pull all the seals off, i.e. valve cover seal and spark plug seal rings.

2. next i hosed down the valve cover getting it free of as much dirt and oil that i possibly can. then i dried it off using a cotton towel and air compressor to get all the water out of the plate on the top inside of the v. cover.

3. cleaned her down with rubbing alcohol to get rid of the oils and other contaminents

4. proceeded to paint entire valve cover, H symbol and all. i used 5 thin coats waiting 15 mins between coats.

5. I took the razor blade and laid it over the H symbols and slowly scraped the paint off of the letters. Its pretty much the same procedure as taking tint off a car window(except its paint). This is very time consuming if you want to do it right and have a nice clean looking v. cover.

6. put back on v. cover seal and spark plug seal rings, yes i reused them...its better if you replace them and get some HondaBond for the added protection. ::

I did not reuse the original valve cover seal or seal rings, my friend works at a dealership so he got me some new ones. I also did not use a razor blade to scrape off the paint that covers the Honda writing on the valve cover. I also used 6 coats instead of 5 and drying time was about 2-3 hours, I think I waited about 6-7 because I was doing other things and waiting for the valve cover seals and rings. Hope this helps, any more questions, just ask either of us. Peace
