Default Kenji ECU Question?

I have the Kenji p28 ECU for my b18c5. It seems that whenever I drive it –it always runs rich according to my air/fuel meter. Sometimes it would go in the middle of the gauge but most of the time it is in the green (when I am not at WOT). When I park my car at night I can smell the fuel. Should I be concerned? I know that lean condition is bad for the car however does excessive rich condition wipe the cylinder walls of needed oil. Does anyone know? Thanks

P.S. Kenji's customer service is top notch!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you using the Autometer A/f gauge? If so, a lot of people on this board will concur that it is just a fancy lightshow.

I've seen the chip on the dyno. You are fine.

The Autometer is relaying little to no useful info.

I would suggest you get a VAFC and go tune it. A P28 (Kenji) is just an Affordable OBD1 ECU and he uses a pretty much stock map with a slightly lower VTEC crossover from what it looked like on the dyno. Should confirm all of this with Kenji though.

Kenji's stuff is good
I hope so !
Got my Kenji Ecu today 2 hours ago.. Still at work so I couln`t test it out.

Kenji told me the fuel curve is a LOT more agressive than stock, also timing.
I hope I don`t fck up my engine on track with this chip.

But from what I`ve heard, Kenji is a good guy.

I have kenji's ECU also on my ITR swap. It does run rich and i fail emissions with it. I put my stock ECU in and i passed emissions fine. It blows a little black smoke when im on it hard and im sure if i had a free-er flowing exhaust system i'd be shooting flames maybe.

I my Kenji ecu.

I wonder if it would be any benefit to advance my timing to 17 or 18 with this ecu. Anyone know?

that ecu runs rich and in open loop
so on the gas it will be straight rich. it wont hunt for stoich so any a/f meter you have
will not move unless you let off the gas

could it possibly hurt the engine ??

you run the chance of building up more carbon deposits from running rich all
the time. Remember that this sort of program is normally only used on race cars.

yeah, I use to swap the ECU before I go to track...
I ever thought running rich leads to a smoother engine but hurts performance...
Some tuners lean out the curve in the upper range to push the peak numbers...

Dave,

How about we meet up this weekend so I can get that 40 ouncer y0!

ButtMoney,

What happened to that VAFC harness that Dave had? Didn't you get that from him?

Sven,

Let me know how you like the harness and ECU that I sent you.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Yes, the program that is being discussed in this thread does tend to run rich. However, it tends to run very strong as well.

I do have other programs that run leaner if you are interested let me know.

Kenji,
Could you tell us a little more about these other programs which run leaner (not rich all the time). Can i change the chip you sent me? What is the cost?

P.S. Kenji ECu does run great.

Kenji: This weekend we are working on buttcoinage's tranny in south florida.

Also, my VAFC harness went to the first bidder of $0.00 on honda-tech, realtyper IMd me within minutes so he got it. Plus at the time craig was going to run a powerfc.

Yep, it runs rich and smooth.... Vtec comes at indicated 5700 and limit is somewhere beyond indicated 9500rpm... Must be way off that damned thing.

I gained not major power (butt dyno) but I gained some wider powerband..
That`s exactly what I need on track... Most curves I can take flat in and flat out in 3rd... But with stock ECU I have to shift to soon once I`m through apex.
With your Ecu I can stay longer in 3rd and kick it out on the straight before I have to shift... This ECU will definitly help me thanks..
I will only use it on track and for this application I want it better rich than lean to keep down the temp and prevent knock

Is running rich all the time a major problem? how bad are carbon deposits? I just ordered a chip, should I be as worried as I am?

Jason

Every kind of internal deposits aren`t good.
Running a little bit to rich is better than running to lean (because of heat that can lead to knock).. But you should not run rich all the time...

That`s why we purchase complete ECU`s... To make it easier to swap before we go on track. I know, the spoon ecu needs two laps to work fine.. That`s exactly the two laps I need for warming up.

So let me get this straight:

You should only use Kenji's computer on the track and not every day because it runs rich....which may lead to carbon deposits in the combustion chamber! plus other side effects.(see previous replys).

I bought this ecu to run every day, not just track days--I like the computer-- all I wish that it had two programs, one for WOT (wide open throatle) and one for part throatle(normal driving).

Kenji, can you make a chip with two programs on it --If you can then I will most likely buy it. (it will be a nice updated version of your old chip i.e 2.0)
