Default Got my GE block back (finally)

After 4 months of waiting, I finally got my block back. It looks beautiful, but.....
Before I even took the plactic wrap off my friend and I noticed a few little things. It looks like their is a few slight "dings", if you will, it a couple sleeves:
In this pic the plastic is still on the block so that just incase it is faulty, I can prove I did not do it. The "ding" is in the upper left part of the sleeve right below the o-ring.

Here is another pic with the plactic off, but at a different angle:

Their is also another "ding" on a different sleeve as well, it is right in the center below the o-ring:

I am not sure if this is normal, I would just rather be safe than sorry. Thanks for all your help.
BTW: Engine is a b20a out of a 90 prelude. Thanks again.

Have GE look at the pics and tell you what to do.

here's my $.02, that "ding" is gonna fill with carbon in like 100 miles. your rings don't even come close to that at TDC & your HG seals up top & not at the sides.

You have no problem.

hope everything works out for ya. <---- this is a guiness BTW.

There should be no dings in your block. You paid good money for it so make them do it right. A ding is not normal. It can cause hot spots leading to detonation or be the start of a crack in a few months. Don't accept bad workmanship.

Give GE a call, and see what they say. And then get it in writing.

But it doesn't look like it would cause any probelms. The most you would have to do is buff out any sharp edges so it doesn't become a hot spot.

Listen to earl, he knows his stuff. My first thought was it looked like a flaw from the centrifugal casting of the sleeve. If it looks more like a contaminant inclusion or a gas pocket than a ding it is a defective sleeve casting. If thats it, this flaw was exposed during the boring process. It is a stress riser as earl has said. It can very well become the initiation site for a crack. However it IS hard to diagnose this kind of problems with ordinary pictures.

Hi earl! Good to see you again!

I am looking at the pix on a small laptop with only a 10" monitor, so my resolution is not the best...... It does look like the last picture has the O ring shifted to the left and maybee down by about 0.030 in or so. At first I thought it was the parallax, because the top part of the pix looks a little skinny between the oring and the bore, but the right side looks shy too..... I thought they indexed the O-ring cutter on the bore....if it is off, I wonder how they managed that.

I think he should take a good look at that earl, and make sure the O-ring grooves are concentric with the bore.

hey, GE told me my block was good to go and it turned out that it leaked oil from the top corner because one of the sleeves deck height wasnt even with the rest...

Don't take the word of a company who stands to lose money if they say it's no good. Take it to a third party machine shop or engine builder.

sorry to jack this thread but since we're on the topic of ge sleeves. the copper o-rings on top of the sleeves is to help sealing right? i read somewhere in this forum that you don't need them. something about the cometic gaskets would be enough.
