Default Ready to drive it off a cliff!!!!

i am sooo pissed right now. Ok my idle has been f*cked up for like a weekk now (sense i put in my zc) and i took my AICV of my a6 and put it on the zc to see if that would fix the problom. Well it ran good, for i little while (10-15 miles) then it started running like ****!!! the car was almost stalling then the idle would go up and down. I could barely make it home. It was like sputtering and back fireing and makeing all kinds of weird *** noises. The check engine light is on but it isn't giving me any codes. When i got home i put the old AICV back on and it is still doing the same thing!?!? I am ******* stumped to ****. please help

Have you tried testing your IACV? like pulling it off and hooking up a battery, and seeing if the little cylinder moves back and forth? Of if the car is warmed up, unplug it and see what happens? I know bad 02's can also **** up idles as well.

The check engine light comes on but no red light flashs on the ecu cover? hmm, I would be getting another ecu that will display codes so you can isolate what your problem is.

Have we done our basic checks?

Good fuel? good fuel filter/good gas? injectors ok?
Good Spark? cap/rotor/dizzy/wires? all in good order?
Good compression?
Timing perfectly on?

The idle air control valve could be ******* up if its not seeing coolant, or getting an incorrect reading from your coolant temp sensor.

Jeff

Also, what is your base timing at? and have you tried adjusting your idle air screw at all?

Yeah I remember you saying that you're running a Pg7? try throwing in the Pm6 and see what happens. Maybe it'll throw a code. Sounds to me like the IACV is screwed up, but check the things AbaZ mentioned.

no i am still running a pm6. the pg7 i had was fried.
what i don't understand is that it was running fine this morning. exept for the idle was going from 1000-1500.

and when i unplug the AICV while the engine is warm, the idle stops bouncing from 1000-1500. it will just kinda stay aroung 1000 but it still moves up and down a little.

If your base timing is set pretty high, and the idle air screw is set to high, the IACV will try to correct it (thus making it bounce) try to set the idle air screw in a bit lower, 750rpms +/- 50 @ 18BTDC

I hear that if you unplug the IACV, the car should die. SInce yours isn't, it sounds to me like it's bad. BUT first check the timing.
