I just ordered a turbo kit for my crx with a zc swap. I also have a civic with a b16a2 in it. Right now the civic is alot faster. I'm not too happy with the zc swap its not as fast as I expected it to be but I guess its not too bad for stock exhaust and intake. I'll let you know how the turbo goes It'll probably get here in a couple more weeks.

IMO, a ZC is a great engine for an awesome price. Everyone knows they respond well to turbos. Personally, I'd rather have a stock B16a just because of the potential it has. I/H/E on a B16 will bring you up to 150 at the wheels. Throw in some nice cams and tuning and you can be at 160-170 in no time, with the potential for even more power. I know the same can be said about turboing a car, just slap on a bigger turbo and theres more HP, but I'm an NA guy myself.

I have a turbo on my ZC and I like it alot. Unfortunately, my wastegate actuator has gone nuts and it still needs tuning, but it is still pretty fast for what it is. If you are going for moderate power I would turbo the ZC. If you want ***** out power, get the B16, build it, and then turbo that.

I would put in the b16. Much stronger engine and it makes good power. After that I would save some money and do what I did: boost the b16!! You will love it.......

Well.. this is convenient. I was just about to post this question. I may be getting a 91 DX hatch this week, and I'm gonna have some $$ to play with. I'm trying to decide whether to do a B16 swap or do a ZC swap and turbo it. I guess I'll keep checking this post to see what everyone thinks. Right now I'm leaning towards the B16, but I'd like to be different.

I have a DOHC ZC in my 91 HF, i love it. For the price of a ZC, its a great motor. In my HF it really fly's. Im thinking about getting turbo for it soon, but i dont know exactly what to modify in order to add turbo without the risk of something being broken. Anyone got links or anything? I found some good turbo setups on ebay, for around 250$ for the ZC. They are buy nows, so its guaranteed at 250$. PEace.

I voted for the b16. The b16, in the long run, just has more potential for power.

I voted ZC Turbo. I have one and I am pretty happy with it. It has something a NA B16 cant give you. TORQUE!

yeah I'd go with a ZC turbo setup...ZC's are inexpensive motors and D series kits can be had fairly cheap (That is if cost is a factor)

ZC turbo

LS motor. Displacement plus the option for vtec...

Just my opinion though...

Agreed, I have done both ZC turbo and B16a... and now I have a LS/Vtec, its better to start off with a basic B-series platform like a LS, then you have the options of VTEC, or a chunky turbo setup that will perform with nice torque.

they are both good motors but of course the aftermarket support for the b16 is amazing, compare to the almost none zc.
i just sold my b16 swap and then ordered the internals for my zc(Race Eng.) the swap was gonna be expensive due to the ecu/axles/mounts...
so with all of that i had enough to buy pistons/rods/head bolts and i was left with some money for the clutch kit...

now i'll round up some money and throw the turbo.

now if i was to do it over from the beginning i would had gone the b16 route!

I say the B16a has more potential in the long run, and will yield you greater engine life than the ZC.

zc is a degenerated version of the B16, i've heard of zc turbos, but VTEC and after market support of B16 make it better, and just turbo the B16, later, will be faster than either option you have listed.

actually I would consider a ZC a degenereated version of the B18a/b

Definitely B16A. A Turbo ZC is a firecracker. Correction, make that a grenade.

Ben, I got some good news for you!

Oh, and I finally voted on this poll.. I chose the B16A. I've been researching and debating and come to that conclusion. I think aftermarket support for the B16 helped me come to that conclusion... that and the fact that the B16 has more potential for the NA route than the ZC.
