Default acura twin piston calipers on my honda accord

ok, so the deal was to take accord v6/wagon rotors which are bigger than my current rotors, and swap the stock calipers for twin piston calipers from a acura legend, which are identical to the ones on the nsx, actually 2mm bigger pistons, so they should work better.

unfortunately, since the nutty Japenese at honda japan thought it would be nifty to put a bazillion bolts holding the rotor to the hub, i cant get them off. 3 of them came off w/ a fight, the 4th one kicked my *** the 6th gen accords and civics are held on by 2 philips head screws, which is the easy and smart thing to do. hell, some accords have their rotors pressed to the hubs, dunno if mine are like this or not, i just pray there not.

so my question is, are these rotors pressed on, or is there something special i need to do to get these off? also, which bracket do i use for this, the 28T or the stock accord ex one for these calipers.

anyways, heres some proof of my *** that was beaten...

Do you mind edit your post and try not to call japanese "Japs"?
it's as bad as calling black folks with the "N" word

A hammer and chisel should be able to turn the bolt out. But then you'll have to press the bearing out to remove the rotor.

that thing is gonna be a bitch to get off. You will need to pound a socket, a 12 pt 13 mil onto it to try to get it off.

An easier solution is to let me send you a spare knuckle that i am about to throw away anyway. I will even take the hub and rotor off before i send it!
But really, if you want me to send it to you let me know, you pay shipping at thats all. I have to move next week and that knuckle is part of the pile of **** i have to get rid of. (its for the driver's side, 90-93 accord).

well I used the chisel that has like a point at the end not the flat one, and just put it in an angle that the impact would make the nut turn to the left and I just pound it and pound it until it turned loose. I hope this help I don't know how explain it better...

That's the way I would do it. But I use a flat chisel.

thx guys, i think ima pass on the free knuckle, anthough i really want it. shipping would kill me, and i would still have to deal w/ pressing everything. ima try to do it w/ the chisel this week and hope it works, otherwise i think ima have to get that knuckle form you. my car is a 95, will they interchage?

also, whats shipping cost to florida, 32303, and where do you live.

thx,
ken

shipping will be about $20 i would say. I can take off the hub and rotor if you want, or i will ship the whole thing.

Not sure if they are interchangeble, but i am thinking so. everything else 90-97 seems to be..

Bda91acc do you have any other goodies that you are looking to throw away that pertain to a 4th gen accord if so i would be more than willing to take them off your hands.

You dont have to have it pressed out... i used a pulley remover... and an impact wrench... basically i installed the remover and impacted the axle to the point where the hub popped off in my hands. The axles were autozone lifetime specials, so no problem there.

it made removal a whole lot quicker. :D

yeah, i had the same problem... in fact i'm in the process of doing the exact same upgrade. i stripped one of those bolts too, and just decided to pick up an entire set of steering knuckles/hubs/rotors/ etc... from the local junkyard so i don't have an out-of-service vehicle while i have things pressed in and out.

basically you've got those four bolts you can see that hold the brake rotor to the hub. the hub is then pressed into the wheel bearing, which is pressed into the steering knuckle AND bolted to the steering knuckle. without removing that bolt you won't be able to separate the rotor from the hub, and no upgrade. new hubs are $100+ from honda, and half that from a wrecking yard.

and you have to use the 28T caliper bracket since i don't think your stock bracket will clear the new rotor width.

ya, im too broke to get new knuckles anyways.

and ive got the 28T bracket also sitting here too, w/ some hawk metallic pads and brembo accord v6 rotors :D

i tried banging the crap outta it today w/ the chisel, didnt break loose. used dremel to reform the bolt at 13mm instead of 14mm and no luck. im screwed, my dad has soem special snap-on ez-out thingys that i am too broke to afford, so when i go home for summer ima get them out w/ that.

i hate the waiting game..

I ended up drilling them out...

to get that damaged bolt off, there is a tool from craftsman that really works well. someone mentioned it earlier but no one paid attn. its called the bolt out, its basically a socket but the inside walls are twisted, and dam sharp too. they come in a kit available with the most popular sizes, i bought one for 19.99 at sears i think. trust me, THIS WILL WORK. it worked for me.

here is a link so you can see what were talking about: http://www.sears.com/sr/product/summ...00030000100085
