Crazy Jumping Speedometer/Blinking D4 Light
Alright, coming home tonight I had a couple problems. My speedometer started jumping everywhere. I would be going 50 and it'd be at 0 MPH. It'd then continue to start jumping around everywhere. My D4 light started blinking as well. I heard of this problem before and heard its not an ECU code, but a Tranny code. Does anybody have any idea what I can do here? I'm easy on the engine, and baby it. I never accelerate rapidly, don't race or anything. Do the usual 75 on the highway. Nothing out of the ordinary. I looked under my glovebox and felt around and it was all wet, maybe due to the Air Conditioning? Why was it wet? Is it always wet? I've never really felt around there before, so I don't know if its normal. I looked under my glovebox by where the passengers feet would go and found a blue plug with a red stripe through it thats tied to a yellow cord. Is this the one I need? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I really need it. Pics from people who have searched for codes, or even if they haven't but just have pics of the cord I'm looking for would be a HUGE help! THanks a bunch.
sounds like your speedo sensor/pulser is going bad. your evaporator drain tube could be clogged causing the sweat from the coils (condensation) to drip on your glove box/floor board. you can blow compressed air through to end of the drain tude (rubber hose leading from your evap through the firewall/floor baord) to unclogged it.
Thanks. I just did the PaperClip thing where you stick in that blue harness, and turn the key. I got the D4 light blinking 4 times in a row repeatedly. Blink Blink Blink Blink.... Same thing. Any clue on which code this would be for? Thanks again.
Seems to be idling fine. I talked to a friend who got this code once, and he said two months later; his transmission blew. Im going to go to Autozone, and check a Haynes manual and see what the code is, and then bring it to a shop that I usually bring it to, and see what they say about it.
Chances are pretty good that the speed sensor on the transmission is where your problem is. When it goes bad ... the speedometer will start reading erractically and the D4 light will come on.
You also said that the light is flashing 4 times. Is it flashing rapidly (like maybe in 1/2 second intervals) or more slowly (like maybe 1 second intervals)? The fast blinks are 1 each meaning that would actually be a 4 in the codes. If it is slower ... they are 10 and would actually equal 40 in the codes.
From experiences at the dealership I work at ... I can ALMOST guarantee you that the VSS (variable speed sensor) is the problem.

Yea, code 4 is usually a bad VSS. (vehicle speed sensor) Take a good look inside the connector, I've seen a few that had corroded terminals.
I looked at this last night, and saw that it looked like something was leaking onto the VSS. Today, I rode with the air off and it all worked fine. I'm thinking it may be coolant from my AC/heating system. My friend had another VSS laying around, so I got that for free
. I'm bringing it into the shop tomorrow to see what they say, and then I'm going to install the new VSS and fix whatever the leak is myself with some help of friends. Thanks for all your guy's help.

Thanks a lot for all of your guy's help. I'm bringing it to the shop today with my friend around noon so I'll come back after and tell you guys what we have to fix. Anyways, thanks again. This board's pretty cool.
