How to test an LSD
How can I test if my LSD is working right?
I have a Y1 tranny with first gen LSD and I'm not sure if it's working the way it should or not.
I put a wheel on ice and the other on pavement, hit the gas, the wheel on ice obviously started spinning fast, I'm not sure about the other one (was on wet pavement actually). The car only started moving forwards very slowly.
Is there a limit to LSDs? If there is a lot of spinning, will they stop working right at some point?

Pull the drive shafts and look for bar that drops down through the Diff. If it is there then you do not have an LSD
do you see colors or elephants? seriously , we put one in a friends 92 and heard a distinct sound difference and a sort of whirring sound when it engaged. i also think if you jack it and turn one tire the other should rotate opposite?

Why can't you just dump the clutch and see if you've got two black strips?
because i got a DX tranny
and sometimes i dump the clutch and i get even marks....
one way its to floor it on wet while making a slight curve.... he will see one tire spinning and then straight the **** up.... if once the car straighttens up and the weight gets balance on both tires, u should be able to feel it pull straiught out and not feeling the poiwer being switched to the other side
If your LSD turn out to be broken, i will buy it from you. I have a perfect Y1 lsd in my shed, but the ring gear is fragged. I would be interested in buying a busted on just for the ring gear. lemme know
one way is to put one wheel on rollers (bassically lets the wheel spin free, but also rolls so the car can move), then tie the back of the car to something solid, but with a spring scale in the middle of the rope. Then go forward and measure the max tension on the rope (read the scale). The LSD should have a obviously higher reading. This might break some type of LSDs so please don't try this if your worried about it breaking.

jack both front wheels off the ground
put car in neutral, spin one wheel - the other should spin the opposite way
put the car into gear, spin one wheel - other wheel should spin the same way
(pretty sure that's what will happen...)
