ive been using some GM syncromesh on alot of my cars lately... mainly my friends 240 and my rx7... and damn it worked wonders no grinding in any gears or at any rpm shift and i got over 150k miles on both trannies i was wondering if the same goes with honda trannies?? or would you just run honda MTF? ive always ran 10w-30 with some lucas additive... helped with some grinding usually what do you guys recommend?
how much is the syncromesh. i will be putting in my clutch soon and replacing the fluids. i was going to go with the honda mtf and the lucas stuff. i guess its the same Q as yours, so bump!
GM gets my vote...I've been thru my fair share of tranny fluids and even trannies and only GM has been able to keep up with my hammer handed shifting...
if it means anything..I just dropped by the other day to pick up a case of 12....

Has anyone tried Motul. I heard that the Japanese race series use the Motul in their races cars and have had no problems. I about to put my JDM final drive in and want to make sure I use something better than Honda MTL if possible. Is GM syncromesh better than motul?
Thanks,

a friend and I tried to get some syncromesh but they had 2 different bottles of the stuff and the idiot parts guy couldn't tell us the difference (besides packaging and price).. couldn't even tell us if one was for automatics or manual
to those guys who've got this stuff, what's the RIGHT bottle to get?

If you get GM synchromesh, don't get the regular stuff, you want the "friction modified" kind. The regular stuff is a waste of time.
It is expensive, like $11:30 per quart.
I've mixed half honda MTF and half GM and it actually turned out pretty good. But I wanted it to be better so I went 100% GM, and it worked even better.
I personally say stick with honda MTF unless you are having notchy shifting.

I am using synchromesh too. Got rid of my 3rd gear grind on a 208k mile tranny. I am happy. $11/bottle for me.
part number:12345349
part number:12345349
The description on the back of the bottle reads:
ACDelco SYNCROMESH TRANSMISSION FLUID is a part synthetic fluid designed specially for use in GM manual transmissions. This product has excellent lubrication properties and does not break down. it withstands high temperatures and functions well in low temperatures.
It's been a while since i picked up GM sync and they changed the labels on me. It's no longer GM...but rather ACDelco, even the part number has changed to 1 #10953465 The parts manager assured me that it is the same stuff inside just that they changed the pacakaging.
I haven't had a chance to change the fluid yet to this "new stuff" but will be doing so the very latest by next week.
I'm not sure why the sync is so expensive where you are...the list price here is $6.85CAD but I pick it up for $5.25 cuz I got the "bulk" discount when I bought my case of 12....

nope..not the round bottles...
but the regular uh...somewhat rectangular kind of bottle....
The GM sync you are buying is it still part number 12345349?

Ok, well the round bottles you don't want so that's good.
But, if it doesn't say "Friction Modified" anywhere on the bottle I'd take it back and look for the friction mod stuff. I seem to have lost my bottles in my garage, but I'll post the pic of them as soon as we-todd-did is back up. Nevermind, I have the link to the pic, but it probably isn't working.

Edit: The part number for the stuff I am speaking of is 12377916, and I got it for $13.44 per quart. Hope that helps. The picture will hopefully be up soon.

Time to make a stop at the dealership to see what's up...
Opening to discussion.... - Just wondering outloud if the addition of Frict modifier is even really beneficial to the guys who are running stock ITR LSD or Quaife diff (me)
I know Nameless runs it on his stock ITR setup....
EDIT: Pic finally showed up.... the above bottles look nothing like what I pick up at my Canadian GM dealer....

DOH!!! i used the ones in the round bottle
. It works well though. Maybe i'll try the friction modified next time. Thanks for the pic.
So those 2 bottles in the pic are the only synchromesh available?

stick with honda or redline if possible

I used Redline and Synchroshift and now I am back to Honda MTL which works like a charme. Never use GM synchromesh and would have never tought of using GM stuff in a Honda car.
i am using redline now and like it very much. smoother shifts
anyone else use redline? how do you all like it? does it have any neg effects on the tranny?
