Default Identifying a Type R Tranny

How do you tell just by looking at a 1999 JDM Type R tranny if it is one or not......

well first of all the US had no 99 type R. so most likely its not.

check and see if it has LSD. if you can see strait through the axles then its LSD

there are also some other stuff which ill let the real type R owners tell you so i dont say the wrong things

I think he asked for a JDM 99 not USDM 99. So there is a JDM 99 tranny.
(Edited....)

As for LSD, it can always be put in. Get a GSR tranny and put in ITR LSD
and you can see straight thr the axle hole. And they both read "S80" on
the serial code so it makes it harder to tell. Another

That would not tell you for sure since LSD's can be swaped around.

There is no way to tell exactly what year it is visually with out opening it up. By opening the tranny up you can tell if its a 98-01 JDM ITR tranny but not specifically a 99. Once you open it up you can count the teeth. The main will have 14 and the counter will have 67. If it is a USDM tranny or 98+ CTR or below 98 JDM ITR then it will have 15 teeth on the main and 66 on the counter.

I think upto '97 used tapered roller bearings for the diff and 98-01 has standard ball bearings... but once again you'd need to open it.
