Can you put a Type R LSD in a s4 case?

Can you put a Type R LSD in a s4 case?
My understanding is that the s4(b16) tranny has a smaller differential so the case is smaller. But I've also heard of people having Type R differentials in s4 trannys. Does the case have to be machined or does it fit right in or what?
