Music cuts out....nuthin but bass comes through.
What is teh source of the problem when sometimes, the music just cuts off form the speakers, but only teh bass comes through?
I have an alpine amp to the speakers and a 12in polk in the back with a old sony HU.

Lets C... YES... The HU is the problem unless your speakers are powered by an external amp which it doesnt sound like it by your post... Its sounds like your internal stereo amp on the HU is shorting out and will go bad soon... I would replace the HU if possible... SONY tends to not do speakers good some reason for car stuff.. I think they only got a small division labeled car audio engineering school retards... Thats what its got to be right? They do everything else well, but my car wouldnt have SONY anything touch it unless I had a walkman in the car....

I am assuming you have an amp. Check all the connections. Check the remote lead for shorts. Does it do it only while driving? Check the rcas also. If you have a good friend, try borrowing their amp for a little while to help you out in your diagnosis.

ture on that... I would guess something is bad wrong somewhere.... One amp powering a sub and speakers, yet only the sub always works while speakers actually cut out... HMM... HU is still my best guess cause it may not be puttin HP signal through or it might be the AMPS crossover going...

if the subs and speakers are running off the same amp, i am assuming it is a 4 or 5 channel amp. otherwise if the speakers are running off of the headunit's power it is probably a bad speaker causing the problems. if a speaker shorts it's self out (being blown), it will put the deck into protection and only the rca's will give output.
my car wouldnt have SONY anything touch it unless I had a walkman in the car....my friend has some 6x9 explods powered by a fosgate punch, ver nice!
