Default Automatic EF's

Are the automatic EF's worth buying and keeping the automatic transmission? In the quartermile how much of a difference stock does the automatic make? Also will No2 harm the engine more since it will be spraying between gears?

autos are so much slower... auto tranny + small engine = bad.

DO NOT buy the auto EFs. So much more work unless its going to be a all out drag car. go to SCCs web site, i believe that they are using a auto tranny in thier drag CRX.

i got and auto crx88dx
pretty gutless even with all bolt ons. then swapped to d16z6 with auto still
much better but not the best. now i swapped to manual with jdm b18c1 running P28chipped all bolt ons with skunk2 IM. Big diff.
was fun with the auto d16z6 though.

Do a MPFI swap... see what you think then and go from there.

Auto's lick *****. NEVER get one unless you can convert to manual for really cheap and you know exactly what you're doing.

auto ----> manual tran = 1500 + 5 hours of work

not really worth when it cost more then the car itself =*(

i have an auto 4dr... pretty gutless.. hope ZC will fix it abit

manuals are too much of a hassle to drive, I agree that most cars with smaller engines should be a 5 sp - but to an extent they suck... rush hour traffic can be a bitch, stop and go traffic, all other types of situations... only things that you can complain about an auto is that they are a lot slower, and CAN be boring - depending on what you do

and josho, was that car MPFI? thats probably why your mods didnt respond very well / if any at all

that was CWBETB who posted the quartermile time, but i don't think it could have been MPFI because no EF Civic Si made was automatic and so there isn't an ECU that would work for a auto DX. That is another downfall of the automatic in your car... you could still use the SOHC VTEC with an auto though

You can use the ECU and other parts from a 90-91 auto EX sedan.

autos are for guys with weak a weak left leg and a limp wrist (****) just kidding...auto would be great in I 5 traffic...auto and small or low torque and hp is bad....v8 +auto=traction and faster e/t's..thats the only time I prefer a auto over a manual..a auto crx would make it so boring in turns and too damn slow imo

well it's all a matter of preference... IMO 5 speeds are a hassle, driving to the beach in traffic for 40 mins can really suck with a 5 sp vs auto

I guess if your more of a drag racer / street racer type of person, then 5 speed is the way to go... but daily driving auto is all you need, speed isn't that much of a concern - just need something faster than a 19 second DX !

I agree that a Manual in traffic is not a lot of fun, but I would still never trade in my Manual for any Auto.

I remeber reading in one of the import mags, they were gonna build a track car using a automatic crx. They were keeping it auto because it would be better for turbo, less lag. So I guess it has some advantages.

you can spool the turbo in an auto car by brake boosting.
