need help! i want beat a gsr and b20/vtec with a ls
well i have a 97 integra ls and i have the basic bolt ons like header and aem cold air and i have exhaust. i was thinking about going ls/vtec and still might be a possibility if i can find a cheap b16 head. but i wanted to know from people who have gone all motor on a ls what do do so i can make this possible. ? i have searched this topic so please give advice on all motor build up of a ls
If you run the v-tech swap from the LS.. you'll smoke most GSR's.. easily!
Just the v-tech conversion w/out your Intake, Exhaust and stuff, will be neck to neck with a GSR..
Im thinking about it aswell...I just finished my suspension and everything, so Im saving for the conversion! your lucky though, Im from Canada...so my swap is gona be like 3000..
2000 for the head
and another 1000 for the install..

Get Unorthodox Racing Underdrive pullies. I have a 98 LS with all 3 Pullies and they are WELL WORTH THE MONEY. I got them for 300.00 shipped through Summit Racing. I love them. Im not sure how well they work on a v-tec motor but on my B18B they are great, i wish i bought them sooner

your gonna need some luck....lol... But seriously, you are going to need some serious mods to an ls/vtec which would be your best chance. Ive yet to see anybody come close to my b20.
its vtec...i dont wanna be that guy...you know the "its vtec and not v-tech or v-tec" guy...but i have to be.

forget the ls/vtec idea unless you want to do it right imo! Now a b20 block w/ your head all done up and some semi-wild cams would beat a gsr, but no way would it take a b20/vtec, cummon 2 liters tuned will easily have 200+ at the wheels. What you should do is save up some change and slap a turbo on that bad boy...Ls's are prime for turbos. Do some research, but unless your ready to make your car gain only 20hp at the wheels with a ls/vtec setup then your going nowhere...and that 20 is gained from putting higher comp pistons like a ctr and some decent cams and all the i/h/e to boot. Im my opinion a good ls/vtec is in the upwards of 4 grand
head, rebuild bottom end w/ all new bearings, shot peen your rods, fresh rings w/ new jdm ctr pistons or a little less agressive jdm itr pistons, some jdm itr cams or even better ctr cams, a skunk2 mani, and some basic tuning tools such as fpr, vtec controller, and cam gears. Then youll be able to beat a gsr, but no way will you take a properply built b20...IMO b20's are untouchable unless your boosted or sleeve a b18 to 84+ mm's. Laterz

Dont forget a B16 tranny

gut the car, I ran 15.4 with a semi-gutted interior with POS 14" tires and a 2.7 60', now that I have I/E/test pipe it will run with a GSR with an intake and exhaust. But my car is a freak everyone says so it might not help you out
If you ask me 5 months ago, I'd say LS/VTEC for sure.... now that I have chosen that path, I can tell you unless you have loads on money on your hand, don't do it. If you have the LS, follow the setup mentioned above:
B20z block (keep your LS head)
Ported and polished head
Skunk2 mani (not necessary)
Crower 404 cams
S-AFC
Camgears
CAI
JDM 4-1
exhaust
Tuning
B16A tranny
+ either the B16A pistons or the USDM ITR (lower in CR than the B16A)
And you should have a pretty decent ride. My friend has a setup like that, a G2 RS and his car is quick.... If you go to http://www.g2ic.com lots of people are modding their B18A motors.

PS. If you want to beat a CRVTEC with the LS..... good luck, you are going to need lots of it.
Also forgot to mention above, get a chip for your ECU that enables you to raise your redline in order to fully utilize the cams and tranny.
