what is makign this sound
ok if i drive 75 on the highway there will be a sound that sounds like a loose belt or metal rubbing metal but as soon as i push the brakes the sound goes away and as soon as i hit 75ish it starts again
its driving me insane

why would the brake pads be rubbing on the highway
its doesnt screech when i press the brakes
it only does it when i am going 75
i don tthink its the brakes because they schreech when you stop nto when your going on the highway

trust me. i know what im talking about.
brake pads have a peice of metal on the side. when the pad gets too thin, the peice of metal rubs against the rotor making a very annoying noise. this tells you that your pads need changing. it only happens (for you) at higher speeds, because the peice of metal isn't loud enough for you to hear it at a lower speed. yes, the noise stops when you push the brakes. why? because the peice of metal is making noise because of the vibration caused from the contact with the rotor. when pressure is applied (you pushing the brakes) the peice of metal is no longer able to vibrate, and it stops making noise.
anything else?

Listen to Spoon hyrbrid, he's right. I had the same problem not awhile ago, and didn't think it was my brake pads..Boy, was i wrong. it definitely was my brake pads. After awhile, if you keep your brake pads without changing them, the sound will increase, and your rotors will get messed up.
well, that is what happened to me.
