Default Longevity/reliability of an older EG?

I'm tinkering with the idea of buying an EG, but in order to afford it, I'd have to go pretty far back, I'm thinking 1992-93. Considering that the car will be 10 years old, I was wondering about the longevity of the motors. I previously owned a '90 VW Jetta with 195k on it, and the motor had no problems at all, so I wanted to know how long I could expect the motor on a 1992 EG to last, in terms of mileage? And what other problems could I expect from a 10 year old Honda? I realize this is a vague request, but I was unable to find what I needed in the search. Thanks for your help, and be gentle, I'm new here.

Thanks, that post was very encouraging, I especially liked the quote:
"300 should be easy with regular tune ups and "normal" driveing."

So according to that post, the VX model motor lasts the longest? How about the Si and CX? (I'd only buy a hatchback.)

And concerning the other issues, how are the trannies?

Are Honda's very rust-resistant? (Early VW's are notorious for being poorly rust-proofed.)

you can always rebuild the engine..or even drop in another d16 in it. its not too expensive.

Motor and tranny should be ok...but rust is a definate...especially by the wheelwells...civic's or all honda's are notorious for having rust there!

Good luck on your search for a hatch

only problems i can think of is rust on rear quarter like everyone stated and the ignitor sometimes fails all of a sudden

i would not hessitate to buy another 92 with 200+ miles

How about the Si and CX?

I'm sure the si is the same, but I have a cx with 220,000 miles runs good. Just need to fix the head gasket.

Yea but going down is a blast.

Yeah, my family had a 1990 EX Sedan, and we had to shut off the A/C going uphill and merging.

Thanks for all the helpful responses. I'll probably be looking for a VX/Si, might be slightly more fun to drive. Guess I'll have to learn more about their respective motors first.

And I'll keep my eyes open for those rust spots.
